Have you stocked up on Christmas booze yet? Someone in Liverpool could be about to have a Christmas to remember (or at least try to), after 18,000 bottles of Jameson Irish whiskey were stolen from an unsupervised trailer in Kirkdale.
The theft took place at McBurney Transport on Dunes Way in Kirkdale on Monday, November 25.
The as-of-yet unidentified thief pulled off the entire operation alone, using a high visibility vest and a hard hat to hide in plain sight. The thief’s plan was simple yet effective, as he simply attached the trailer to his own HGV cab, and drove away.
The average adult in the UK spends £45 on beer, wine and spirits for home-consumption over the festive period. This clearly wouldn’t even touch the sides for our high-vis hijacker, because the trailer’s missing contents is worth over £180,000.
If it hasn’t already, the local police advised in a statement that the trailer’s contents is likely to find its way onto the black market. The statement read as follows:
We’re appealing for information following the high-value theft of whiskey from a premises in Kirkdale.
At around 8.40pm on Monday 25 November, a man wearing a high-vis jacket and hard hat gained entry to McBurney Transport on Dunes Way in an empty HGV cab, and connected the cab to a trailer containing around £180,000 of Jameson’s whiskey.
He drove off and the trailer was later found empty in Atherton Road in Walton.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC or call 101 with reference number 19100691697. You can also pass information on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
