Beware! Raccoon Robbers Infiltrate Local Bank

Masked Bandits storm into Bank to steal their most prized goods!

And steal their most prized possessions: the bank’s biscuits.

In Redwood City, California, two stealthy raccoons broke into Chase Bank on Tuesday, 20 October to sneak out some food. The two crafty individuals were halted in their scope of finding cookies by the Peninsula Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were called to the scene as soon as a witness recognized that these were in fact not stuffed-animals sitting on the desks, but very much alive and committed raccoons.

Watch the news coverage below:

The company’s communication manager opened up saying they’d never had to deal with a break-in, facing potential masked bandits. Following their tracks they saw their muddy prints on the trees outside and deduced that the raccoons were probably able to get onto the ceiling. In fact, when inspecting the ventilation system, the detectives found “several broken ceiling tiles, and the masked bandits knocked papers around and even a computer over.”

But, after 10 minutes, the Peninsula Humane Society managed to “safely shoo” the raccoons outside. Much to their reluctance.

Thankfully, the raccoons were not injured during their little stunt and didn’t leave with any money from the bank.

However, this tale ends much happier than what happened last year in Germany, also involving a raccoon who got drunk at the Christmas Markets… This mulled out raccoon was sadly shot.

It had gotten access to the mulled wine from discarded cups that had been thrown around the Erfurt market, and it was discovered as it stumbled between stalls at midday.
However gentle it seemed, apparently just playing with a woman’s shoes and then passing out, the authorities at the scene recorded that it was “obviously intoxicated”.

The authorities initially intended to return the raccoon to an animal shelter, but were denied access since it only accepts domestic pets. Consequently, they brought it to the ‘local hunter’ that put it to sleep.

Poor fella.
