Strap on, everyone! The NYC Health Department is encouraging people to get creative in the bedroom and how to do it – literally do it – safely amidst the pandemic.
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene published a guide of how to get creative with sex while also being cautious of the Coronavirus. While their guide provides information on what we know and don’t know about how COVID-19 spreads, they also have suggestions on how to practice safe sex and how to spice things up in the bedroom. Essentially, they want you to spread your legs not the virus.
The beginning of their handbook, Safer Sex and COVID-19, states that “Sex is a normal part of life and should always be with the consent of all parties.” It continues on to say that sex must be balanced with personal health and that people should have sex, even during this quarantine period. While the first three main suggestions seem like the usual “safe sex” spiel mixed with Coronavirus warnings, it gets a little more risqué towards the end.
At number four, here cums the tip on how to “Take care during sex.” While the guide tells us how to clean up before and after and the benefits of condoms, it also says we should “Make it a little kinky.” They encourage you to do so by cumming up with creative sex positions as well as using ‘walls’ to practice safe distancing. Huh, that’s a funny way of saying ‘gloryholes.’
The guide also encourages various ways to engage in sex, social distancing style. While masturbating together is an option, the guide also suggests and I quote, “sexy ‘“Zoom”’ parties.” Video dating, sexting, subscription based fan platforms, and chat rooms are also wonderful options in fulfilling your sexual desires (just be sure you disinfect your keyboard and touch screen!).
While the NYC Health Department encourages various ways to engage in sex, they also remind us of how to practice it safely and to be conscious of your and your sexual partner’s health. For example, they heed warning with ‘rimming’ (mouth on anus – incase you didn’t know) and how the virus in feces can lead to an infection since it would enter in your mouth. They also say that heavy breathing and panting can spread the virus so wearing a mask would be helpful – even if it’s not your thing.
The guide also informs us about how to prevent HIV and other STI’s by using condoms. It provides phone numbers and locations for sexual health clinics all around New York as well as information for finding a provider for reproductive health services. Their clinics welcome walk-in patients for emergency contraceptives, HIV treatment, and post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV.
If you find yourself in the area and are in need of condoms, go ahead and try the NYC Condom Availability Program service, Door 2 Door. Through this service, you can order various types of condoms and a lubricant. Of course the program has certain limitations and rules but if you find yourself in a bind (or other types of bondage), this program can really be beneficial to you and your partner.
The guide is immensely helpful with the various ideas on how to keep your sex life exciting and enjoyable but also with the crucial information on how to do it safely and with the services available. Their guide ends with “The NYC Health Department may change recommendations as the situation evolves.” I don’t know about you but I read that as the NYC Health Department will have more ideas on how to keep your sex life more exciting – count me in.
The main takeaways from the Safer Sex and COVID-19 guide are; consent is key, practice hygiene, wear condoms, and make it kinky. If you need sex toy ideas to pleasure yourself or your partner, read up on the Njoy Pure Wand.
