With the changes in creative directors over the spring and summer comes at least 12 new creative director debuts during NY, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. To keep up with all the new designers, Vogue released a leaderboard that combines many different statistics to see who is ‘winning’ the season. I’ve complied how Vogue’s tracker works along with my 5 favorite creative director debuts this season.
Vogue’s Designer Tracker
Vogue’s new Designer Tracker, introduced alongside its Spring 2026 Runway Leaderboard, measures how newly appointed and reshuffled creative directors are performing. The performance is measured across the global fashion industry. Instead of reviewing collections, the tracker uses quantifiable metrics to estimate how each designer or brand is resonating within the public opinion.
Vogue accomplished this tracker by compiling information like traffic to Vogue Runway show pages, Google search trends, social media engagement, and even resale activity. This activity is tracked on platforms like The RealReal.
This approach shifts how success in fashion is measured. Success is now beyond the traditional critical acclaim and includes the brand’s digital and commercial impact.
The tracker focuses especially on the wave of creative-director debuts that has characterized the Spring 2026 season. Vogue reports fifteen designers are presenting collections for the first time at major houses. Each brand’s position on the leaderboard reflects not only the aesthetic response to its show but also how effectively it captures attention and buzz.
How the Rankings Work
The rankings take into account the pre-show anticipation generated by teaser campaigns. Also, the virality of looks on social media and the immediate consumer response are considered. The response is reflected in search data and resale interest. For example, brands such as Chanel, Gucci, and Christian Dior remain dominant. However, the tracker also spotlights emerging creative voices who are reshaping legacy houses with fresh ideas.
Vogue’s tracker offers a snapshot of where cultural momentum lies. For viewers, it provides a way to see which designers are setting trends and defining the moment thing spring season.
As Fashion Weeks have come to a close, The trackers have Chanel and Balenciaga at the top (as of 10/7/2025). Aside from pure analytics, I want to highlight my personal top 5 debuts from this season.
1. Denma at Gucci
Personally, I loved the presentation of Gucci’s debut (and not just because it released on my birthday!). On September 23rd, Demna premiered at Milan Fashion Week via a short film titled The Tiger, directed by Spike Jonze and Halina Reijn, instead of a traditional runway show.
According to Dazed “the new collection – titled La Famiglia – broke free from the confines of the lookbook, worn by a number of famous faces on the red carpet.”
The collectioned leaned into Gucci heritage and standout pieces featured monograms, tiger print and faux fur, and evening dresses. My personal favorite is the “L’influencer” look with the brown leather jacket and signature gucci colors. I love leather looks and the whole look is styled to perfection.
2. Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta
Trotter’s first collection for Bottega Veneta debuted Milan Fashion Week in September 2025. She described the collection as a way to “return to the beginning to find the present.” The debut collection was well received for its craftsmanship, texture, and strong material narrative.
Louise Trotter’s Bottega Veneta debut was praised for refined craftsmanship, luxurious materials, and modern interpretation of the house’s heritage. It was described as an authentic return to artisanal values over showmanship.
3. Jonathan Anderson at Christian Dior
Anderson’s first full women’s ready-to-wear collection was shown this October. Anderson’s debut is widely seen as “a renewal of the house’s creative identity. It moves from purely heritage reference toward a more conceptual, modern approach while still respecting the brand’s DNA.”
Jonathan Anderson’s debut represents a whole new chapter for Dior. My favorite look in particular was the dark green gingham shirt dress, with the sculptural black hat. The color was absolutely lovely and look amazing on the model. the sculptural hats were and interesting choice throughout the show. It kept my attention and made some simpler pieces more interesting.
4. Miguel Castro Freitas at Mugler
Miguel Castro Freitas had a shocking debut at Mugler, with a bold and sexy take on the brand’s concept. The collection had mature aura with strong power and glamour coming across.
The show took place in a basement parking garage, and I think the location helped further contrast the luxury of the pieces. All the pieces stood out incredibly well. I personally love the silhouettes of many of the looks. The presentation was less performance-focused for Mugler but still focused on storytelling.
Although performance is important to the Mugler name, I believe Miguel Castro’s Freitas’ debut still works well without it. His traditional approach to fashion shows the new direction Mugler’s going for.
5. Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez at Loewe
Their first runway collection for Loewe debuted this October during Paris Fashion Week, and featured many bright colors. The debut featured strong primary colors featuring royal blue, red, and yellow on the runway.
Personally, I love the amount of color on the runway. The color mixed with the structural silhouettes was so interesting and wonderfully done. This style is definitely different than what I usually like. However, I was still gravitated towards it nonetheless. In my personal style, I’m not really drawn to bright color, but the colors and color blocking was done in this collection that I couldn’t look away. It was an optimistic display of well-placed color and structure.
What’s Your Favorite Debut?
These are my personal favorite debuts from the spring 2026. Honestly, all the debuts this season were amazing. It was interesting to look at buzz measured by Vogue’s new tracker compared to my own personal opinions. I’m excited to see how these new debuts further impact these luxury brands in the future. I’m curious — what was your favorite this season?
