Our increasingly digital age has changed how trends cycle entirely, throwing the worlds of both high and casual fashion for a loop. We still see that 20ish year pattern; everything deemed obsolete at the close of the early 2000s is making its way back into closets and onto clothes hangers — hence the recent Y2K obsession. But we are also experiencing microtrends like never before, a pattern or cut in one day and out the next.
Remember when cow print and high-waist cargos were all the rage? These types of fad-fashion cycle in and out faster than we can keep track, but knowing what’s in style can also help us keep track of cultural trends.
These ten 2025 fashion trends have had a huge influence, and I have some thoughts on them.
5 fashion trends we love ❤️
The Polka Dot Resurgence
Price: $49.90
Shop the Look: Zara
Call me basic, but I just love the polka dots. This 50’s-esque pattern is classy at its finest. Black with white spots, or vice versa — even throw some colors in! You can dress polka dots up with a pair of kitten heels and some pearl jewelry. Or dress them down with some denim! Spots like these can work in many ways. My personal favorite is a simple polka dot dress with some black heels.
Make your shorts micro!
Price: $32.00
Shop the look: Edikted
I would like to personally thank Charli XCX for subtracting 5 inches from our inseams. This party-girl look is chic, fun, and bold — the perfect look for summer. And it can work in so many ways! Whether you’re going to the gym or to the club, microshorts can make your outfit more exciting.
Headscarves
Price: $25.00
Shop the Look: Princess Polly
This look is the epitome of babushka-chic. It’s flowy and beautiful — perfect for summer. A patterned scarf tied loosely over the head can also perfectly complement a pair of rectangular sunglasses. You can style it in various ways to embrace that vintage, coastal look we all adore. Just head to your local thrift store; a scarf is probably only two or three dollars.
Fur, Fur, Fur
Price: $459.00
Shop the Look: Urban Outfitters
The modern age has been all about embracing a wild side of yourself, and what better way to do that than wearing fur? Nobody call PETA; I’m talking about faux or secondhand fur only; and we’ve seen lots in 2025. Whether it’s a long coat, legwarmers, or a shawl, fur is just the best outfit addition. Even though winter is over, there are still clever ways to incorporate some fur into your outfit. Try a fur purse or even shoes with a fur accent! I don’t care how many times I see it; fur will never get old to me.
Statement Belts
Price: $35.00
Shop the Look: Urban Outfitters
I’ll admit when those chunky, gold belts started coming out of the woodworks I wasn’t sure how to feel. But they grew on me very quickly. They can take an outfit from plain to whimsical in just one snap! Please keep giving me more beads, buckles, and metals because I really just can’t get enough of it. A simple denim or white skirt can be taken to a whole new level with a statement belt. It can also be really fun to pick a belt that compliments your jewelry!
5 fashion trends we hate 👎
Sailor Chic
Price: $48.99
Shop the Look: Aritzia
Some of you are going to be mad at me for this one, but Big Yacht cannot convince me to like this. What ever happened to a good, old-fashioned trashy summer? Why are we aging ourselves 20 years with a boring button-up and slacks? Lower your waistline and go have some fun!
Exposed Buttcrack
This might sound counterintuitive after number 3, but I really cannot stand a waistline that dips below your crack. I see it more in high fashion, like Zoe Kravitz’s Oscars look. And maybe I’m missing the vision, but I am not a fan. I think this is an example of fashion with the sole goal of shock value.
The Boxer Epidemic
Price: $18.00
Shop the Look: Brandy Melville
Just put some pants on!!! Why are we forgetting that boxers are literally underwear? They are supposed to go UNDER your pants. I don’t know when we decided to switch the two out, but I would strongly consider swapping them back. The only scenario in which I approve of boxers is a cute pajama look. But I’ve seen far too many people dressed in boxers in a scenario where jeans would be just fine.
Loafers
Price: $89.00
Shop the Look: Coach Outlet
Sorry, I guess I wasn’t done talking about sailor chic because loafers often accompany it. I’ve just never been a proprietor of the grandpa aesthetic, and I fear these are a key component of that. I think it goes with the same philosophy of wearing clothes that age you, just like the button-ups. You have your entire life to wear loafers. Youth is the time for too-high heels, and we should embrace that!
Pillow Face Fillers
This trend is probably the worst thing to come post-industrial revolution. I’m not opposed to a tasteful lip flip, but do you ever see an influencer who barely looks human anymore? It’s frankly just sad. There’s something very classy about embracing your natural features, even though social media has vapidly discouraged this. This summer, I think we should leave fillers in the past and show off our natural beauty!
Final Thoughts
Thanks for hearing my piece on trends. I’m not a model or a designer — just a girl with pretty strong opinions on fashion trends. The most important thing about fashion is that it augments who you really are. Your body is a canvas, and you should decorate it however you please, even if that means loafers (as much as I hate them). Embrace the trends, buy the opposite, wear some ugly jewelry, go out half-naked, or wear a snowsuit in the summer! Clothing is so beautiful and unique, and nobody should stop you from wearing what you love.
