New Study Suggests That One-in-Three Young Americans Haven’t Had Sex in the Last Year

But what’s to blame for the lack of libido?

You know how people always picture sex-crazed teenagers and people in their 20’s who can’t keep their hands off each other? That’s just not the case anymore. Apparently, recent studies and surveys have found that sex rates are wildly decreasing among young people.

Weird right? I don’t think so. When you take a step back and see how things have changes in recent years, declining sex rates don’t seem like such a stark statement.

Scientists from around the world have began to hypothesise about why all the sudden sex drive has dropped. Especially in a time when access to contreceptaives and family planning is as available as ever.

One cause blamed is the rampant use of technology that consumes most youngster’s lives. With Netflix, Hulu, video games, social media platforms, there’s just a lot of screen time taking place. Time that is being taken away from forming actual face-to-face relations and intimacy.

Could it also be that all of this technology has created a generation afraid of in-person contact? Could it be our minds are still too fascinated with our little screens to pursue sexual relations? Possibly. I have some more ideas.

The world is in chaos right now. It has been for a handful of years and this weight sits exceptionally heavy on young people’s shoulders. In the midst of a housing crisis, economic instability, a vicious job market, climate change and everything else that is happening– yeah. Lots of anxiety and fear for the future and not as much sexy time.

I feel as thought I’m not even articulating this correctly. Things just aren’t as simple as they used to be. I myself feel as thought I’m in a perpetual state of survival with the daunting years to come lurking around the corner. Both men and women are coping with our rapidly changing world and discomfort. Mix this in with whatever the hell technology is doing to our heads.

Interestingly, people over 35 aren’t effected by this sex crisis. I theorize this is because people over 35 just made it out alive before the world took this seemingly scary shift. Often times I think people are defined by their youngest years. Setting their internal wiring for the rest of their lives in their early twenties. Yes people can change, but do they?

Maybe this slightly older generation just didn’t get the kick in the genitals that the rest of us young people did. Moving forward, if you’re between the ages of 18 to 30 get your groove on! Or don’t, the world is over populated as it is.
