What is February 14th without a Galentine’s Day party with your girls? Whether it be heart-shaped food, cute decor, or watching chick flicks, a Galentine’s party is a great way to celebrate, single or not.
After the COVID-19 quarantine and isolation period, Gen Z struggled to come together and celebrate due to the lack of parties and hangouts. We all forgot how vital the little celebrations are and how much community bonding can positively contribute to our mental health.
This Valentine’s Day, make sure to celebrate with those you love. Being single during the holidays (especially this one) can be hard, so it is important to remember that you are not alone and to celebrate with the ones you love, even if it is platonic love.
Galentine’s is a great way to emphasize inclusion for all of your friends, even those in relationships, so they can all look forward to this very special day.
1. A Great Group of Gals
The most important thing you need at your Galentine’s party (BY FAR) is an excellent group of girls.
Remember, today is about celebrating those whom you love, so you want to make sure you are surrounded by uplifting and supportive women who love you.
Sometimes, female friendships among Gen Z members can feel fake and become toxic, whether because of isolation from the pandemic in essential years of our development or a rise in social media.
Due to this, you must surround yourself, on Galentine’s Day and all other days, with people who genuinely love and care about you and do not make you question your self-worth or importance.
2. A Yummy Heart-shaped Meal
One of the best parts about Valentine’s Day is the heart-shaped food.
My friends and I made heart-shaped pizzas to celebrate last year, which were not only delicious but super easy and aesthetically pleasing. I like pizza and pasta because they are not only easy to make but are also typically universally liked, even for us picky eaters. If you have friends with food intolerances or sensitivities, it is pretty easy to switch to gluten-free crust/pasta and dairy-free cheese or vegetarian/vegan options.
If you don’t love to cook or are not the best cook (like me), many chain restaurants offer heart-shaped meals, which are also a great option. For instance, Chick-fil-A does a heart-shaped nugget meal that is delicious and great for pictures.
3. Heart-shaped Decor
Heart-shaped food is not enough. You also need heart-shaped decor.
Whether you use heart-shaped balloons, banners, placemats, or napkins, they will really help decorate and set the vibe for your party.
If you are conscious about overspending, there are great DIY tutorials on how to make your own affordable decorations and many budget-friendly items at your nearest Dollar or Convenience store.
4. A Sweet Treat
What is dinner without dessert?
If you and your friends love baking or just sweet treats, heart-shaped desserts are the way to go.
Whether it’s a heart-shaped pie or cake or even mini heart-shaped cookies or cupcakes, a delicious sweet treat tastes even more delicious when it’s in the shape of a heart.
5. A Bouquet of Flowers
Who says you need a boyfriend to get flowers on Valentine’s Day?
A lovely, beautifully smelling bouquet is the best addition to your Galentines party and will look great in photos.
The sweet aroma of fresh roses and the beautiful display will make you and your girls feel loved and appreciated. Flowers are a great symbol of celebration and beauty, perfect on this celebratory and aesthetically pleasing day filled with love and happiness.
6. Your Favorite “Chick Flick”/”Rom-com”
My personal favorite part of any girls night, but especially on Galentine’s Day, is a perfect Chick Flick or “Rom-Com” (romantic comedy).
One of my all-time favorite Rom-Coms is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, starring Kate Hudson and Mathew Mcconaughey (photographed above). This 2000’s Chick Flick is a crowd favorite due to its immense amount of romance and humor.
The 2000s are always an excellent time for romantic comedies, whether it be Bridget Jones’s Diary, Legally Blonde, 13 Going on 30, Love Actually, or others.
However, although the 2000’s are the epitome of Chick Flicks and Rom-Coms, there are still some great current romantic comedies. For instance, Anyone but You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, is a great romantic comedy to enjoy on this special holiday.
7. Matching “Fits”
A charming addition to your next Galentines Day party is matching outfits.
Whether it be matching pajamas, a cohesive red and pink theme, or matching fancy attire, coordinating outfits set the vibe for the evening and, again, are great for photos.
You might be worried about spending too much money, especially us starving college students, but this does not need to be the next Victoria’s Secret runway show. There are plenty of affordable, college-budget friendly, not to mention adorable, matching pajama sets at your nearest Target or even Dollar Store for you and your girls to match in.
8. Cute “Flicks”
The common theme in these cutesy Galentines Day traditions is pictures/flicks.
What is the point of having any party if your Instagram followers haven’t seen it?
All jokes aside, photos are a great way to commemorate the event and celebrate those you love. Whether it be cute photos on your phone, polaroids, or digital camera photos, your Instagram feed will never look better after your Galentines Day flicks.
Personally, I always struggle to get cute photos with all of my close friends because there is always someone who isn’t looking or whose hair is parted to the wrong side. But this Galentine’s Day, you don’t have to worry about that because no photo will look cuter than one with matching outfits, aesthetically pleasing flowers, food, decor, and more.
Leaving Social Media behind, Polaroids are a great way to show off your friends on your walls and commemorate the sweet event that has brought you all together due to a shared commonality, love, and appreciation for one another.
