TikTok user Demi Skipper started a strange project during lockdown: to swap a hairpin for a house. After a year and a half, she completed her goal.
30-year-old San Franciscan Demi Skipper recorded her entire journey, and the final part—her receiving the house—was posted online on the 12th of December 2021. In it, we see Skipper make her final trade and complete her goal.

In the two days since it’s been posted, the video has received 3.7M views and over 750K likes.
How did she manage it?
Skipper started her project in May of 2020—back when the pandemic was at its highest, and many of us were still in lockdown. She began with a simple bobby pin and looked for someone willing to trade.
The first trade was for a pair of earrings. Since then, she’s traded many things around, like cars, tractors, games consoles, and mobile homes.
The goal was to one day get a hold of something worthwhile enough to trade for a house.
What is the house she swapped a hairpin for like?
In the video, Skipper shows us the outside of the house she “bought” with a bobby pin. It’s a one-story, blue house with brown shutters.
Skipper clearly looks thrilled when she sees the house, bending in half at first sight.
She ends the video saying: ‘This just shows you: it’s possible.’
So, is anyone else out there feeling inspired enough to take their nearest hairpin and see what they can get with it? Maybe someone should aim to swap their bobby pin for a private plane or an island. That might take a bit longer though.
