Orlando Bloom Kept The Skeleton of His Dead Dog as an Ornament

‘A dog is a man’s bestfriend’ was taken to another level three years ago by actor Orlando Bloom, when he was overcome with grief at the death of his 12 year old dog, Sidi.

Whilst shooting a movie in Morroco, Bloom came across a stray dog who would turn out to become his most beloved friend and pet. Unable to let go of Sidi after his death, a result of liver failure, Bloom went to extreme lengths to keep his dog around.

Not wanting to let go of his beloved rescue dog, Bloom found a company that would strip the deceased dog down to its bones, to be displayed in his home as a daily reminder of his best friend.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Bloom explained his decision to keep the bones of his deceased pet as an ornament in his home, and acknowlegded that this may not be to everyone’s taste…

Bloom describes the “incredible bond” him and Sidi had developed, “he came with me everywhere…he was on set on Pirates [of the Carribean] and he would sit under my chair”.

“I never cried so hard in all my life”

In justifying his decision Bloom stated that he “just couldn’t stand the idea that he was just not going to be around anymore”.

Bloom also revealed that the company asked if he would like to keep his dog’s penis…”aesthetically it didn’t look quite right so i have it on the side”.

For many pet owners the thought of having the skeleton of your deceased pet showcased in your home would give you nightmares, but for Bloom it’s a different story – “when I see it I smile and I think of him”.
