TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, is in midsts of selling the App after being threatened with a full shutdown. The US government raised concerns that the private data of users was threatened under Chinese control.
Donald Trump threatened to ban TikTok unless, the Chinese founded and owned company, ByteDance, sold it’s US operations to an American company. Just by luck, one of Trump’s favourite companies ‘Oracle’ has won the competition to take over the US operations of the app.
There are talks that Oracle would be responsible for building a Firewall between ByteDance to protect the private data of American users. Continuing Trump’s evident obsession with building walls, whether that be visible or invisible.
TikTok have discussed possibly shutting dowen the app completely rather than selling part of their operations to the US.
Microsoft was involved in talks to spearhead the US takeover but due to an introduction of new export rules, this prevented the possibility for the US company to take control of the app’s algorithm. An integral piece of the app’s success.
After the ultimatum presented by Trump unless ByteDance sold the US operations of the short-video app, it only seems fitting that Oracle, one of a few companies based in Silicon Valley was also a campaign fundraiser for Trump. Coincidence?
