It may sound like a Hollywood thriller, but this was the reality for Ramon Sosa in 2016.
Ramon met his wife at a salsa club. It was love at first sight. Fast forward to their wedding day and his mother-in-law warns him:
‘She’s your problem now.’
The first red flag, in a so far, idyllic relationship.
After they are married, Lulu’s cold side begins to appear. She accuses her husband, Ramon, of domestic abuse. She fabricates lies against him. One day, Ramon’s friend Mundo overhears a telephone conversation, in which Lulu is plotting to murder her husband. Mundo tells her that he knows some people for the job and proceeds to tell Ramon what he has heard.
Mundo and Ramon decide to plant their own sting operation after the police say there is not enough evidence to arrest Lulu. Mundo begins meetings with Lulu and records the conversations. The evidence is taken to the police. The FBI assists Ramon, using an undercover officer pretending to be a hitman to meet with Lulu.
As part of their plan to catch Lulu, and with the help of the FBI and Texas Rangers, Ramon stages his death. Bloody makeup is painted over his face and body to make it seem as if he was shot. Ramon is buried in a shallow grave and photographs are taken. When Lulu witnesses the photographs, she laughs, saying:
‘He won’t wake up anymore.’
Shortly after Lulu is shown the photographs, she is arrested by police in her home. Watch the video of her arrest below.
Lulu pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder in 2016 at the District Court in Conroe, Texas. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Ramon has now released a book titled ‘I Walked On My Own Grave’, and encourages other men to speak up about domestic abuse.
