Vegans have some beef to settle.

Vegans love beef, and we don’t mean the meat. Every other day, it seems a story crops up involving a group of vegans and their incessant need to call out those who don’t conform to their non-animal eating ways. The latest vegan quarrel, however, might actually carry some weight on their part.

London restaurant chain Young’s is like any typical pub. Customers come for the comfort food, craft beers, and sirloin steaks. It’s Young’s Angus steaks that have got the vegans talking. The chain recently announced a “special offer”: two Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks for £28 or two roasted cauliflower steaks for £28. Hmm, we’re sensing an issue here.

While it’s accurate to say that vegan food isn’t necessarily the cheapest option when eating out, it’s preposterous to think a steak of cauliflower is worth the same as a cut of beef. An average head of cauliflower costs about £3 at the grocery store. Either someone did their math terribly wrong, or Young’s is out to make the vegans of London very angry.

In a statement attempting to defend their unfair prices, the restaurant said the following:

“Both dishes are of premium quality, the vegan dish is an alternative for those who do not eat meat.

We also have other options available on our main menus.”

Premium quality must now be synonymous with seriously inflated prices, huh? One heck of a vegetable they’re serving at Young’s. Vegans earned the right to be outraged in this particular circumstance, and we’re definitely on their side. Though we have to say – for any of you meat eaters out there – get your butt over to Young’s because their deal on Angus steaks is pretty darn sweet.

Maybe Young’s should introduce the Impossible Burger instead of overly-priced cauliflower.
