On May 27th, nurses at Warrington Hospital gratefully accepted a cake from the grandfather of one of their patients. However, it became clear that the cake wasn’t traditional confectionery.
A staff member noticed that the cake gave off an odd scent, so police were called in to conduct an investigation. Authorities soon discovered that the gifted cake was laced with weed–a fact which was completely unknown to the grandfather.
The cake was apparently intended for the grandson’s 18th birthday–not as a sweet ‘thank you’ to his healthcare professionals.
According to reports, only one nurse had a small slice and experienced no negative side effects. The offending cake was confiscated and destroyed by authorities and no charges were pressed.
The hospital assured that patient care was unaffected by the incident and that precautions will be taken in receiving edible gifts in the future.
