Feeling comfortable with who you are is such an important life concept because if you’re ashamed to be who you are, that shame will pile up inside of you until you do something crazy like this guy.
20-year-old Ethan Stables was on trial for planning to attack a gay pride event when he admitted that he was–gasp–bisexual. The event took place last July at the New Empire pub in Barrow, Cumbria. Stables took to social media to reveal all of his evil plans to raid the event and cut up homosexuals with his machete–classic. Thing is, he actually had all the weapons in his possession to carry out his threats.
“Gays look good on fire,” was how he started off his defense to the jury. This hostility, caught on video, quickly dissolved into fear. Stables admitted that he had sexual experiences with men and knew that his parents would definitely disown him if they knew. He claimed that he was ashamed and disgusted by his own actions and that he only made degrading remarks about homosexuals to try and impress his friends.
Stables’ stepfather, Phillip Loveless, surely had something to say about all this because–plot twist–he’s actually a proud homosexual. Observing Stables as a child, Loveless would’ve never guessed that his stepson was gay but knew that he was always a bit strange.
Loveless says:
“I have a sixth sense for that sort of thing and had no reason to believe Ethan was either homosexual or homophobic.
He was a bit of a longer as a child and it became clear very early on that he wasn’t developing entirely normally. He preferred to be on his own.
There was never any problem with his intellectual capacity but when he was asked not to do something he would be very adamant that he wasn’t going to stop doing that thing.
I felt he did go off on paranoid fantasies. He would get very fixated on certain ideas.
On one level, it seemed totally bizarre (when he was arrested) but on another level, we had all been waiting for something to happen.
I never thought it would be this but there was a sense something would give at some point.”
Can’t imagine what Loveless must be feeling now, seeing his stepson go from wanting to straight out murder innocent people to admitting he was homosexual himself. The tables do turn, after all.
