Saloons, deserts, horses and James Franco with a constant noose around his neck. It can only mean one thing. Netflix is bringing out a new Western.

Directed by the legendary Coen brothers, ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ is set to hit our screens this November. The trailer shows some amazing set dressing and scenery. The period costumes are on point and as always with Westerns shows, there is a lot of shooting and stylized guns. This is shaping up to be a scenic and explosive film.

The narrator of the trailer provides a little mystery. We can already tell as an audience how we can slot ourselves into the narrative. He states in the trailer how “We all love hearing about ourselves. So long as the people in the stories are us. But not us.” He says this overlaying some scenes of burying something. None-the-less, there is going to be some soul searching for some of the characters in this one.

The Coen’s are known for their Western films

Netflix has described the new addition as “a six-part Western anthology film, a series of tales about the American frontier… Each chapter tells a distinct story about the American West.” Despite James Franco being top-billed the titular character is being played by Tim Blake Nelson. He only features in the trailer a little, but he makes a lasting impression with his shooting skills.

However, since the film is split up into 6 different parts, we understand the lack of Scruggs himself in the trailer. We can only assume he weaves himself into all the separate narratives included in the film. Now the question on everyone’s mind: just how many times can Franco go to be hanged in this film and make it out alive? We’ll just have to wait and see. ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ is released on November 16th.
