The trailer for ‘The King’s Man,’ the third installment of the ‘Kingsman’ franchise was released earlier this week. Along with it, viewers were finally given the release date: 22nd December 2021.
The ‘Kingsman’ franchise, started in 2014 with ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ follows a secret spy service in the UK. It is based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbon’s comic book, ‘The Secret Service.’
The trailer has given us lots of clues about ‘The King’s Man.’ The official synopsis describes the film’s plot as:
One man must race against time to stop history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds as they get together to plot a war that could wipe out millions of people and destroy humanity
It seems to be a sort of origin story for the Kingsman franchise. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou, and Rhys Ifans.
When will the Kingsman film be released?
‘The King’s Man’ was originally set to release in November of 2019. Somehow, the first of the six trailers we’ve now received was released in February of 2019. That’s two and a half years ago!
In the end, the November date was pushed back to the following February. That’s right: February 2020. (Dun, dun, dun!). Obviously, when Covid-19 hit, the film had to be pulled, and instead was issued with the release date of September 2020. Alongside this, a new trailer was released in June 2020 to announce the new date.
Now, with hindsight, we can see that the new Kingsman film wasn’t nearly pushed back far enough. Few of us were able to go to a cinema in September 2020. This, obviously, became apparent to the studio, who once again pushed it to February 2021, and then, when that became less likely, to March 2021.
Are you getting exhausted from reading dates? I sure am. But somehow, there are still more. When March 2021 became unlikely, they pushed it to August. As we are currently in September, you can guess that that date didn’t work out. Nope! Finally (hopefully), ‘The King’s Man’ was pushed to December 22nd, 2021, the date we are looking at now.
Will this release date work?
Fingers crossed, this date sticks. Thinking about it, it should, for a few big budget movies are set to release between now and then that should get people going back to the cinema. You can read about the upcoming Venom release here. But, most of all, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release in December, and should pave the way.
