Although Halloween is over for 2021, the excitement for next year has already started as Disney+ confirms the release of Hocus Pocus 2. It’s time to refresh yourself on the original and to get ready for the long awaited sequel!
What is Hocus Pocus?
For many of us, this beloved 1993 classic is a must watch when October hits! Hocus Pocus sets the tone for the month and it helps prepare you for the spooky season. It’s full of witches, magic, black cats and fantastically horrific costumes! This film has definitely inspired many of my childhood halloween costumes.
It is based on three witches known as the Sanderson sisters, who have been resurrected after 300 years, and they are desperate to get revenge on the young boy Max, who has just moved to Salem with his family. He is responsible for lighting a cursed Candle of Black Flame and this enables the witches to come back so they can bring chaos and disorder to Salem.
Although this film does contain scary features at times, I would say that it is a family friendly film as the witches are very comedic! It’s your typical ‘scary but not too scary’ film so I’d definitely recommend you watch it if you haven’t already.
Here’s what we know so far about the sequel
According to a Disney+ press release…
Hocus Pocus 2 will take place 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th century sisters who were executed for practising witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. It is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.
The film is guaranteed to be full of fun and adventure as the teenagers figure out how to save their town from the Sanderson sisters!
Who will be in the sequel?
As part of Disney’s announcement, they also revealed a pretty in-depth cast list. The original trio that played the Sanderson sisters will be making an appearance in the film as they resume their roles as Winnie (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy).
They have also revealed that there will be some new faces in the sequel… Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Melissa Escobedo, Juju Brener, From Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson and Nina Kitchen will all be playing a role in Hocus Pocus 2.
Disney’s news has definitely thrilled a lot of fans and Twitter was flooded with responses to this exciting announcement!
