Rustin for Netflix will be directed by Emmy nominee George C. Wolfe, who previously worked on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for Netflix, starring the late Chadwick Boseman.
Rustin will recount the life of the late civil rights hero Bayard Rustin, whom Colman Domingo will play. Everything you need to know is right here.
The plot of Rustin’s?
Rustin is a Netflix film based on the life of late civil rights campaigner Bayard Rustin, a strategist and activist who promoted nonviolent social change techniques for more than a half-century. He is most remembered for organizing the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which served as the backdrop for Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” address.
His work was occasionally impeded by his controversial history, which included participation in the Young Communist League, a three-year jail sentence for refusing to cooperate with the military on conscientious grounds, and his open homosexuality, which included an arrest for obscene vagrancy.
Rustin died in 1987 after visiting Haiti to investigate the possibilities of democratic reform in connection with an upcoming election.
In 2013, President Barack Obama posthumously presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Bayard Rustin.
