The Sandman has finally arrived at Netflix! The Sandman series is based on the graphic novels written by Neil Gaiman. He is a popular fantasy author whose works also involve American Gods and Stardust.
Lucifer, the dramedy starring Tom Ellis as the devil, is based on one of Gaiman’s comic books. This time, we get to see a different version of the fallen angel, played by Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie.
Lucifer doesn’t play a crucial role in The Sandman season 1 on Netflix. However, the final moments tease that the character could have a bigger part in the second season.
The Sandman involves the protagonist Morpheus, played by Tom Sturridge, also known as Dream. During the back half of the season, Dream comes across a massive threat when he finds out there’s a Dream Vortex out there. That dream vortex has the potential to destroy the world. The Vortex turns out to be a 21-year-old woman named Rose Walker. She doesn’t even know the powers that she has. The dream, therefore, waits on eliminating her. As Rose gains more power, the wall between the Waking World and the Dream World starts to weaken.
By the finale of The Sandman, Dream realizes that he must kill the Vortex to save humanity. However, it did not go as planned.
At the end of The Sandman, Lucifer asserts that she’s going to do something “that will make God livid and bring Morpheus to his knees.” and we see the demons outside, all chanting her name. That’s how the season ends.
