Is John Evil in The Sandman?

The Sandman has finally been released this past week and has quickly become a matter of discussion.

The Sandman involves a cosmic being named The Sandman/Dream. He is the lord of Dreaming. The dream was imprisoned for over a century before he finally broke free from his captors. After breaking free, Dream sets out on a journey to recover his artefacts and restore order to his realm. However, his mission isn’t that easy, as there are plenty of people who are trying to kill him.

John Evil is the son of Ethel Cripps and Roderick Burgess. While being pregnant, Ethel took Dream’s tools and left Roderick in the middle of the night. When John grew up, he stole the ruby from Ethel. During a conversation in episode 3, Ethel mentions to John that when he possessed that ruby, he used it to kill people. This is when the audience will come to know about John’s evil character.

Therefore, yes! The character of John is evil and impossible for him to change because he craved world domination and nothing would stop him from achieving it.
