The film’s director, Chris Columbus, claims that the current President of the United States of America told him that he must feature in the film if they were going to film in his hotel.

Chris Columbus revealed the news during an interview with Insider on what was the 30th anniversary of Home Alone 2’s release. Much of the movie is filmed in the Plaza Hotel, which was owned by Donald Trump at the time. Columbus claims that they paid the fee to film in the Plaza but that Trump said to him that, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’ So, they agreed to include him in the movie in what is now one of its most famous scenes.

Chris Columbus also said, “I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep him in though. People cheered when Trump showed up on-screen in the test screening. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’

It’s strange to look back on things celebrities have done in the past, and the current President’s short-lived movie career is certainly one of those more memorable moments in movie history. It is also one of those moments in history that the recent US Presidential election has brought back up again, with many on Twitter referencing the famous scene when describing their feelings about the election results.
