Denis Villeneuve’s Dune was a massive hit at the theatres last year, and Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to make the most of it. A sequel to this movie is on the way, and it’s going to reunite Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgård, and the rest of the cast from the first film after they finish adapting Brian Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi classic. But WBD is also developing a Dune TV show for HBO Max called Dune: The Sisterhood.
Dune: The Sisterhood is all about the Bene Gesserit. It is the mysterious order of women who are the masterminds behind the major events in the galaxy. Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson will play Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. They are the early members of the Bene Gesserit. The remaining cast members include Indira Varma and Travis Fimmel.
The show just began filming, but there’s been a problem. The dune prequel series lost its showrunner just as filming began. According to Deadline reports – co-creator Diane Ademu-John has given up the role of co-showrunner, leaving TV veteran Allison Schapker as the only showrunner going forward.
Ademu-John will still be involved with the series creatively as an executive producer, but he will only focus on “other commitments,” according to Deadline. Other executive producers are Denis Villenueve and Brian Herbert, who’s been writing books based on the Dune universe since his father, Frank Herbert, died in 1986. Dune: The Sisterhood is going to draw direct inspiration from his work.
