A Steve Irwin Biopic is rumoured to be in the works documenting the trajectory of his life from growing up as the son of a zookeeper in Queensland to finding renowned fame as a crocodile hunter, appearing in several films, late night chat shows and documentaries. The movie is set to be a feature-length and has enticed film executives due to Irwin’s late fame in the USA.

Woman’s Day have provided insight that the film is ‘gaining momentum’ with many A-list Hollywood celebrities being short-listed for the role of Steve. Both Chris Hemsworth and Russell Crowe have been considered. The ‘momentum’ for this movie is gaining traction as Australia is one of the locations that remains accessible for filming, despite the impact of the pandemic.

However, insight tells us that it might not be one of the two men above that take the title character. Steve’s widow Terri has been involved in conversations for the movie and she has suggested a different local actor, Lincoln Lewis, famous for his appearance on Home and Away, to portray Steve in the film. Lewis subsequently responded on Twitter, emphasising his delight stating stating he is ‘honoured’ as ‘Steve has always been a massive hero of [his]’; maybe they have found their perfect Steve!

Discussions for Irwin’s biopic have arrived 15 years after his death in 2006 where he was pierced to death by a stingray barb during the filming of a documentary whilst in Queensland, at the age of 44. This movie hopes to honour his life as an adventurous, notorious crocodile hunter.

Irwin was no stranger to the film screen himself. He appeared in a range of films, cameoing in Dr Dolittle 2, provided his voice for Happy Feet and starred in The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course with his wife Terri.

Irwin’s family also remains heavily involved with the media, with daughter Bindi winning Dancing with the Stars in 2015 and with the creation of their own reality show Crikey! It’s the Irwins. They have also honoured Steve’s wildlife involvement with the operation of Australia Zoo in Queensland.
