Unreleased music from The Beatles in 2021? Dreams really can come true.
The new documentary Get Back will give an inside look into the iconic band. With fresh, never before seen footage, we’ll see The Beatles like we’ve never seen them before. Here’s all the details we have thus far on the highly anticipated documentary.
Get Back was initially scheduled to be released in September of last year, however, it was postponed. The documentary will now premiere between 25th-27th of November on Disney+.
Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson has directed the film. He has stated that it will have a very intimate feel, “It’s like a time machine transports us back to 1969, and we get to sit in the studio watching these four friends make great music together.” The film is comprised of footage that was originally intended to be used in the 1970 documentary Let It Be by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. Peter Jackson has repurposed these intimate moments caught on camera to provide a fresh lens on The Beatles, and their time in the studio rehearsing and recording songs for their final album.
Moreover, Get Back will show the entirety of their iconic rooftop performance. This show was played on the 30th of January, 1969, and has never been released in its entirety (42 minutes) until now.
And what’s more, you can expect to hear new music. Peter Jackson has been working with around140 hours worth of audio recordings that have never been officially released to the public.
Get Back will perhaps show a lighter side of the band during this time period compared to Let It Be. Lindsay-Hogg’s film captured some of the more intense moments the band experienced in the studio. Peter Jackson, however, paints a different picture with the footage. In a statement, Ringo Starr has commented, “There was hours and hours of us just laughing and playing music… There was a lot of joy, and I think Peter will show that. I think this version will be a lot more peace and loving, like we really are.”
Variety were able to view clips from Get Back have commented, “The film creates a cheerful counter-narrative to the Beatles’ 1970 swan song Let It Be film, which essentially documented the group’s breakup and is a rather downbeat experience. The new film feels completely different. with the four members laughing and clowning around in classic mop top fashion.”
So we all have this to look forward to, coming soon on Disney+. And if you need any more Disney news to get jazzed about, check this out!
