The first teaser trailer for Kanye West’s multipart documentary dropped during Netflix’s global Tudum event on September 25, 2021, providing fans with a glimpse into the so-called “Jeen-Yuhs” of the musician and his prestigious career.

The teaser trailer featured a one-shot archival film of Kanye and Mos Def (now Yasiin Bey) rapping “Two Words” from Kanye’s debut studio album College Dropout. In addition to this clip from 2002, the docu-series is reported to feature an expansive collection of behind-the-scenes footage of Kanye throughout his career.

The film rights were allegedly acquired for $30 million in April of 2021, although West is reportedly not involved. Directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah, partners of the Creative Control company, this documentary series has been in process since Coodie and Chike directed West’s debut music video for “Through the Wire” in 2003.

After working with West a full 18 years ago, and again on West’s third reprise of “Jesus Walks,” Coodie and Chike began the process of recording and compiling mass amounts of footage for this exact purpose. A “jeen-yuhs” move, to put it lightly.

The precise topic of this three-part documentary series is unclear, but it is rumored to feature Kanye’s creative, professional, and personal life. Topics featured will likely include his artistic evolution, his brief presidential run in 2020, and the death of his mother Donda West in 2007.

While Netflix failed to provide a precise release date, they revealed that it would be released on the streaming service sometime during the 2022 calendar year.

West’s latest album “Donda” shattered records after its long-awaited release at the end of August 2021. Featuring a grand total of 27 songs and immediate hits including “Hurricane” and “Moon,” the album rose to No. 1 on Apple Music within 24 hours in over 150 countries. Within the first 24 hours of the release of “Donda,” the album and West became the most streamed album and artist respectively in a single day for 2021.
