That special time of the year is here! Time to listen to Christmas music non stop for the entire month of December but what songs should you include? Here’s the top 10 Christmas songs of 2024 to help you narrow down your list!

10. It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas – Michael Bublé

Starting off our top ten Christmas list strong, Michael Bublé’s smooth voice is just the thing that I know I want to listen to for the entire month of December. It was released in 2011 and has quickly become the most popular verison over the years. It peaked at number six in the UK last year and continues to remain a favourite. This song has been recorded by multiple artists and it first became a hit for Perry Como and the Fontane Sisters in 1951. Bublé in his verison channels all the past artist’s verisons of this song. He channels the blues rhythms and velvetty, charming voices of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Dean Martin and makes us replay his verison of the song over and over again!

9. Santa Tell Me – Ariana Grande

Santa Tell Me is Ariana Grande’s most popular Christmas song. Grande is a very well known pop star for songs like Yes, And? and Side to Side. She most recently starred in the role of Galinda in the Wicked film, of which Part 1 released in late November. The famous singer released Santa Tell Me in 2014 and that year it reached number 65 on the Billboard Top 100 chart. It has peaked at number six and number five on global music charts around the world. It’s catchy ipbeat tone and Grande’s effortless high notes and stunning riffs never fail to amaze. If you want to listen to feel good, stuck in your head earwormy music, stick this song on!

8. Underneath the Tree – Kelly Clarkson

A very close friend and maybe the only person who can match Grande’s talent is Kelly Clarkson. She is a very popular singer known for being able to cover any genre of music without any trouble and for having a very successful career herself. She is known for songs such as Since You’ve Been Gone and Stronger. She now has her own talk show called The Kelly Clarkson Show. She released Underneath The Tree as part of her Christmas album in 2013 and it has remained a global sensation ever since. It is replayed every Christmas because it is so catchy and gets stuck in your head so easily. You better believe I am listneing to this on repeat right now!

7. Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Helms

Jingle Bell Rock is a classic Christmas song that was released in 1957 by Bobby Helms. It is religiously played every Christmas all over the world and has remained in the top ten for well over a decade. The title and a lot of the lyrics are an extension of the Christmas classic Jingle Bells. There was an authorship dispute for the writing credits of the song between Bobby Helms plus his guitarist Hank Garland and Joseph Carleton Beal and James Ross Boothe. Helms and Garland both claimed until their deaths that they wrote the song. Jingle Bell Rock has recently been covered by Brenda Lee and Ariana Grande, both covers receiving success.

6. Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley

It would not be a top ten Christmas song list without mentioning the King of the Blues himself, Elvis Presley! Blue Christmas was written by Billy Hayes and John W. Johnson and the most famous verison is Presley’s veirson which was recorded in 1957. It now considered a Chirstmas classic, especially to country music listeners. It is a tale of unrequited love during the holidays. Along with the melancholy lyrics, Presley’s mourning voice tugs at our heart strings, every single year. The record has reached Platinimum status in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

5. It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year – Edward Pola and George Wyle

It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year is it not? This classic Christmas song was written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle. It was released that same year by Andy Williams for his first Christmas album, The Andy Willaims Christmas Album. It has continously made it onto pop singles charts all over the world in the 2010s and 2020s. The song peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 and number nine on the UK Singles Chart in 2021. It remains a really popular Christmas song as it always tends to inspire a Christmassy feeling!

4. Sleigh Ride – The Ronettes

Well what you waiting for? Time to hop on a sleigh! Sleigh Ride is a light orecestra piece composed by Leroy Anderson that has been played by orcestras all over the world. It’s first performance was by the Boston Pops Orcestra in May 1948. The original verisons were instrumental and the most well known verisons of these were John Williams verison and RCA Victor Red Seal. The beloved lyrics were written in 1950 by Mitchell Parish. The Ronettes covered Sleigh Ride for Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift For You in 1963. This has linked the song to Christmas since. The Ronettes verison has remained the most popular, charting yearly in the Billboard’s Top Ten U.S. Holiday 100.

3. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee

Rockin Aroun the Christmas Tree is a must play this time of year! It is just the right mix of festive cheer and singalong fun and makes you want to get up on your feet and dance. The song was written by Johnny Marks and recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. It has since been covered by numerous artists but the original has remained the most popular by far. In 2019, her recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and in December 2023, it made history as it topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. This is Lee’s third number one single and Lee herself broke the record for oldest singer to reach the Top 100 at age 78.

2. Last Christmas – Wham

What is Christmas without Wham!? Last Christmas is a globally adored Christmas song. It was released in December 1984 and has been covered by many artists since then including Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. When it released, it spent two weeks at number two on the UK singles chart and after thirty six years it finally reached number one in Janurary 2021. It topped charts all over the world, not jsut the UK. It reached the top ten in countries like Australia, Canda and the US. It reached number two on Billboard Global 200 in Janurary 2021. Wham! donated all their royalities off the record to relief efforts for the Ethiopan famine.

1. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey

We all knew it was coming! No one can topple the Queen of Christmas music! It was released in 1994 by Mariah Carey as part of her first Christmas album. It has become a necessary Christmas song. You cannot go into any shop or restaurant during the month of December without hearing this banger. It has re-entered charts after it’s first intial release and has reached number one in over 30 countries on an annual basis. With Mariah Carey’s high notes, the cheery lyrics and the upbeat tempo, it will forever be reigning number one!
