The upcoming film boasts a talented cast of actors, most of whom have previously played a variety of science fiction and fantasy roles.

Frank Herbert’s classic best-selling novel is finally coming to the big screen. UK viewers can expect the film in cinemas on Thursday, October 21st. If you’re in the US, you can watch Timothée Chalamet portray protagonist Paul Atreides on his dangerous journey to the planet Arrakis on Friday, October 22nd.

If you’ve never read the book, you must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer, and it’ll keep you from seeing a movie that has earned highly positive reviews from critics. This is the movie adaptation of the first book, so everything you need to know will be explained to you over the course of the film. If you’re still not convinced – wait until we discuss the cast for this movie.

There are a number of recognizable and respectable names in this film. Jared Leto is not one of them, despite the number of characters named Leto throughout the Dune series. Beloved actress Zendaya, perhaps best known for her portrayal of MJ in the most recent Spider-Man movies, is playing Chani. In the film, she is a native of Arrakis and the girl who appears to Paul in his dreams.

Dune also features Josh Brolin (Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Gurney Hallack and Duncan Idaho, warriors who train Paul in combat. Paul’s parents are Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron from Star Wars).

We’re not done rattling off famous names yet. Dave Bautista, who played Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, is featured in the trailer. Javier Bardem (who played Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men) will play Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen. Stellan Skarsgård (the one from Avengers: Age of Ultron, not Bill who plays Pennywise) is Baron Vladmir of House Harkonnen.

Dune will be released on HBO Max on Friday, October 22nd for US viewers with a subscription to the premium, ad-free version of the streaming service. Standard HBO users can watch Dune a month after its release. HBO Max is currently only available to US viewers – but if you’re in the UK, a VPN can be a quick fix to that problem.

UK viewers and non-HBO users once again draw the short straw: it is unlikely that Dune will be coming to Netflix anytime soon. Netflix Life provided a short explanation of the situation.

“Licensing rights aside, newly released non-Netflix original films typically take some time to come to the streaming platform in the first place, and with such a huge release like this one, it could take an even longer time for the sci-fi movie to be available on Netflix.”

As disappointing as that is, it should still be worth seeing Dune in theaters. The trailer promises a lot of beautiful shots, tons of action, and a wonderful cast. The director of the film, Denis Villeneuve, is passionate about Dune and is confident in the work he has produced.

Even if you’ve never touched a science fiction book before, the Dune film has plenty of elements that promise to wow everyone.

What else is Timothée Chalamet going to be in? Check out his new movie coming out on Christmas Eve of this year.
