Calvin Harris usually gets hearts beating with his music; his production of Rhianna’s “We Found Love” made it a wedding dance-floor favorite. But a few years ago, Calvin found his own heart in a helpless place. And no, I’m not talking about his breakup with Taylor Swift. In 2014, his actual heart actually stopped. Luckily a team of doctors revived him and he’s here today to tweet about it.

On Twitter, Calvin referred to the year his heart stopped as “interesting.” The 36-year-old DJ went on to write that 2014 “started with me knocking myself off number 1 in the UK and ended with my heart getting restarted in the ER.” He shared a video of a powerhouse set he pulled off at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas later that year.

Before that performance, he pulled out of several others due to his medical mishap, including a gig at the MTV European Music Awards in November.

Harris confirmed in 2018 that doctors diagnosed him with an arrhythmia. Prior to that revelation, he referred vaguely to “heart problems.” It wasn’t until his May 19, 2020 tweet, that he dropped the bomb about his ticker getting reset.

Responding on Twitter to fans’ questions about his sobriety, which he’s maintained since that diagnosis in 2014, he wrote “The last thing I want to do is down 2 bottles of jack daniels a night, live on Greggs pasties and sleep on an absolutely stinking bus all year, scream down a mic for 55 minutes and pretend to play a keyboard 5x a week those days are behind me son.”

We’re glad they are, Calvin. That does not sound healthy. And we need more music from you.

Harris’s latest collaboration with Eli Brown, aptly entitled, “Love Regenerator,” dropped in April 2020.

According to his website, he’s scheduled to perform in June, July,  August, and September in Las Vegas and the UK. It’s unclear whether those events will suffer cancellations at the hands of the novel coronavirus this summer.

If you’ve had enough of feeling bad for Harris and his poor heart, check out his salary for some self-pity instead.
