Billy McFarland Finally Admits to Fraud in Fyre Festival Scandal

So he admitted to it…can he ever really be trusted again?

A year ago this week was when everything changed. COVID-19 had made it to the U.S. and was about to change our lives, much like it was in other countries around the world. It feels like this last year has gone on for about five years at least, am I right? 2021 feels like it should almost be over and it’s only March. Stay strong and love yourself and those closest to you, anything can happen or be taken away from us quickly, we can’t lose sight of that. With that being said, thinking about going to sporting events, concerts, music festivals, or anything else has probably been on our minds a lot. On that note, Billy McFarland gave his first interview, from jail, admitting that the Fyre Festival was a huge fraud.

Last week, ABC aired a special called ‘The Con’ and this episode was about Billy McFarland and the horrific scenes from the Fyre Festival. The special details all of McFarland’s mistakes and lack of empathy or concern for the attendees as well as his investors and the people who tried to make the festival a success…as much as it could have been. While the words he is saying are ones of remorse and reflection, they don’t really sound heartfelt or sincere when he is actually saying them.

None of this sounds like he truly understands what he did to the festivals goers, the workers, or investors:

“I think the first thing that needs to be said is I was guilty and there’s absolutely no way around that. I lied to people. I lied to investors. I lied to sponsors. And the lies were around this idea that I had where I needed to raise more money, or I thought I needed to raise more money to execute the festival. Looking back, there were thousands of management decisions made that were totally wrong and totally incorrect. I think the biggest mistake before I went awry was just setting an unrealistic time frame for the festival. Had we given ourselves a year or two and had I obviously not made the terrible decision to lie to my backers, I think we could have been a bit better place, but regardless of the mistakes that I made or what made things go wrong. [There’s] no excuse and I wish I could have just woken up one of those mornings in the beginning and I just had stopped.”

Billy McFarland

He sounds robotic and not all that sincere in my opinion. And because of this interview, he’s been in solitary. Was it worth it Billy? All the people who are still waiting for their money, I hope you’re not holding your breath. Where that $26 million is going to come from, I don’t know. He’s just trying to get back into people’s good graces and hoping maybe he can make some more money and probably screw more people over. He didn’t learn his lesson with this, guaranteed.
