Vintage shopping has shaken everyone from Instagram try-hards to the quiet artsy girl in the back of the room. Secondhand luxury clothing is cheaper, sustainable, and has unique pieces for shoppers. Now that luxury shopping has become more of a hassle, it’s left the door open for vintage stores to take over.

Vintage or Bust

Over the past couple of years, vintage clothing shops have become all the rage among Gen Z, from celebrities and influencers to your local campus characters. In 2020, 33 million people bought their first secondhand clothing piece, according to Vestiaire Collective’s 2022 Impact Report. Clearly, this trend is rising and is here to stay.

Olivia Rodrigo has become the poster child for shopping vintage and a Pinterest mood board essential with her eclectic collection. For the Guts’ album release party in September, she wore Todd Oldham’s Spring 1995 collection, which debuted in a now-iconic runway moment between Shalom Harlow and Amber Valletta.

Rodrigo is one of many celebrities who shop at secondhand shops these days. Vintage stores are the perfect middle ground between fast fashion and luxury brands. The pricing is more reasonable than top-of-the-line stores while also being more sustainable than fast fashion.

Often, people find many luxury brands at vintage stores, and the pieces are usually one of the few still available in the market. Not only will vintage shoppers be stylish and sustainable, but their wardrobes will be effortlessly exclusive.

Instead of spending over $1,000 for a new Gucci bag, you can find a vintage one in good condition that costs a fraction of the price. While price ranges can still be steep, they won’t be nearly as expensive as name-brand retail store prices.

Below are five of the best vintage stores in different luxury shopping capitals of the world. Instead of waiting in line, you’ll get to browse one-of-a-kind pieces, save money, and most importantly… save time!

1) 10 ft. Single by Stella Dallas: Williamsburg, NY, USA

This is one of Bella Hadid’s favorite vintage stores, and it truly has it all. The store has piles of graphic tees that are all unique yet reasonably priced. They have belts, bomber jackets, and plenty of sweatshirts to browse. You could spend hours here and even might score a deal on a designer belt.

2) Hidden Treasures: Topanga, CA, USA

Los Angeles is one of the best places to go vintage shopping, and there are an overwhelming number of places to shop. One of California’s favorite vintage stores is Hidden Treasures. From crochet and ruffled dresses to sweaters, scarves, and shirts of all types, the store is full of timeless pieces from the 1920s to today. Prices can range from expensive to more affordable, but all pieces are one-of-a-kind, so they’re worth the splurge.

3) Cow: London, UK

If you’re looking for a ludicrously capacious vintage bag, this store is for you! With plenty of high-end designers to browse, this store is the perfect sustainable replacement for Harrods. Cow has brands such as Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Diesel with shirts and trench coats to bags and accessories.
