Inclusivity is chic, but in the cosmetic industry, there seems to be an agreed-upon exception: women over a “certain” age. In a remedial move, Rihanna has personally selected JoAni Johnson, 67, to be featured in the latest Fenty campaign.

Fenty campaign – Back in 2016, Johnson was a semi-retired model out for a stroll with her husband when a photographer approached her. The connection re-invigorated her career, drawing the attention of Allure Magazine, landing her a feature in their viral “Dispelling Beauty Myths: Aging With Grace” video.

The video garnered significant attention and paved the runway for Johnson–quite literally. Refinery 29 reported that since the Allure spotlight, Johnson has walked for Eileen Fischer, Tome, Deveaux, and CDLM.

Most recently, Johnson caught the eye of Rihanna, personally selecting her to represent in the latest Fenty campaign for Fenty Beauty. Johnson brings an undeniably cool, New Yorker fierceness to the collection, elevating the brand as accessible to more than just the youthful beauty-guru set.

Rihanna – With impeccable cheekbones, waist-length silver hair, and creamy skin, Johnson captivates the camera with an arresting quality that goes beyond her stunning outward features. Her presence in the industry is refreshing, an overdue correction to the ageism that has ruled the runways and cosmetic counters for years.
