When you think of Adam Sandler you might think comedy, great bad films, or you might even think of Kevin James but you probably wouldn’t think fashionable.
Vogue disagrees as they named Adam Sandler the style icon of 2021. Sandler is in some ways well known for his look which consists of over sized t-shirts and basketball shorts, and although he might not be considered fashionable he is distinctive in his style.
Vogue reporter Liana Satenstein wrote; “The proof is in the Google trend results: Adam Sandler beat out Harry Styles, Lizzo, and Britney Spears to be the top search for celebrity style. […] I’m not completely surprised that Sandler has achieved this accolade. He’s the unofficial ambassador of pandemic style. The past 18 months have been dominated by all-things cushy: sweatpants and sweatshirts. Sandler has long encapsulated this look. […] The actor wears huge blooming basketball shorts, oversized polos, and untied basketball shoes—a low-key grocery-run look that everyone has more or less adopted in their own way over the past several months.”
Other celebrities will have numerous stylists helping them choose the perfect outfit for a trip to buy a pint of milk. They’ll boast the most expensive and flamboyant frocks to red carpet events designed by the biggest designer they can find. And although we love the glitz and the glam Adam Sandler’s over sized t-shirts have touched our hearts in a way no diamond encrusted ballgown could.
After the year of doing zoom calls in your underpants and only leaving the house for toilet roll, not caring what you look like as you know that everyone else will look just as bad I think it’s safe to say the thought of putting real clothes on again disheartened us all. It disheartened us so much that sweatpants are now a must have fashion item even for going out for a coffee with your friends.
Is Adam Sandler to thank for that? I think so yes. Although Kim Kardashian has been sporting the loungewear look outside for a while, she doesn’t quite commit to it as much as Sandler. Kim Kardashian has her hair perfectly styled and makeup flawlessly applied and wants us to believe her look is effortless. Adam Sandler’s really is effortless. He has shown the world that no matter what the circumstances are it is always acceptable to be underdressed and comfy! Something we all need to hear in such stressful times.
