Throughout the history of film, war movies have been a constant. Dunkirk, Full Metal Jacket, Jar Head, Lone Survivor, the list goes on and on. Still, I doubt that you have ever seen a war movie similar to that of the one Apple Studios is funding.

According to Deadline, Apple Studios is set to help director Peter Farrelly produce a film about possibly the greatest beer run in history.

As you can see in the tweet above, this beer run happened in the midst of the Vietnam War. Chick Donahue did not care. He had one and only goal: get to Vietnam to have a drink with his friends.

Now, I could talk about the Vietnam War for days on end. There was so much that went along with it. Fraudulent elections, Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, guerilla warfare, whatever. Still, the most important thing to know is that millions of people lost their lives, both soldiers and civilians.

The war was treacherous, with very poor conditions. Drafted soldiers, on the United States’ side of things, had to deal with booby traps, mines and ambushes. It was a physical battle as much as it was a mental one. With that being said, I can’t even imagine the feeling I would have gotten if a friend from my home state traveled half-way across the world just to have a beer with me.

By the way, what a guy Chick Donahue is. Going to Vietnam in the middle of a warzone just to a drink a warm beer with a buddy is lunacy. The story is truly incredible and shows how important friendship really is.

Personally, I am very excited for this movie to come out. I mean, there are already talks that actors Bill Murray, Zac Efron and Russell Crowe will be involved. Great actors and a great story? Sign me up.
