For those who like a startling, suspenseful true crime story – listen up! On October 14th, Netflix is releasing the documentary entitled The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo, and it looks chilling.

The piece follows Marisela, as she tries to get justice for the murder of her sixteen-year-old daughter, Ruby Frayre. Ruby was killed in 2008, but her remains were not discovered until the following year.

Sergio Rafael Bocanegra was the suspected killer of Ruby – so Marisela and her husband found him and he was arrested. Even though Bocanegra even admitted to the murder, he was released due to lack of evidence. This unbelievable action received worldwide coverage. Being a true passionate and loving mother, Marisela led protests in an effort to appeal the decision made by Mexico’s justice system.

Netflix explains The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo:

This documentary examines a mother’s tireless crusade to jail her daughter’s murderer after Mexico’s justice system failed to do so.

Take a look at the trailer below for this devastating new documentary.

From Marisela incredible fight and efforts, Bocanegra was sentenced for murder. Painfully, he escaped justice and continued to be a fugitive.

Here, the situation becomes even more tragic. While continuing protests to hopefully find justice and  Bocanegra, Marisela was murdered by an unknown assassin. This happened in 2010, and two days after Marisela’s death, her brother-in-law was discovered dead, along with his business set on fire.

The criminal, Bocanegra, died in 2012 from an alleged run-in with Mexican authorities.

This powerful and devastating true story sounds too horrible to be true. In a world where such cruel things can take place, hopefully, this documentary will push us to love our loved ones a little more.
