Information spreads quickly via the internet and social media apps; however, misinformation, rumors, and other unwanted viral messages do too. Now more than ever, filtering out the latter is crucial, and WhatsApp recently launched  Search the Web to double-check any forwarded messages’ reliability.

If you feel uncertain about a message, simply tap the magnifying glass icon in the chat to open Google Search. This permits users to find information sources or news reports on the received content – a handy tool at anyone’s convenience.

And because WhatsApp values privacy, they note that uploading the message to the phone’s browser does not reveal the message’s content to WhatsApp.

Right now, Search the Web is emerging in Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, UK, and the U.S., on Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web.

This feature is preceded by a forwarding limit, something WhatsApp calls a Coronavirus product change. To better understand the previous WhatsApp update that minimizes group chats, check out this article
