On Wednesday 12th December, the University of Lincoln Hockey Club, staff and students came together in a tribute match to remember the life of Grace Millane.

Volunteers walked around with buckets collecting donations for the Lincolnshire based cancer charity – Candles. A GoFundMe has also been set up to raise funds for the Lucie Blackman trust, who support British victims overseas and have supported Grace’s family. The GoFundMe has already exceeded its £1,000 goal and currently stands at £4,869 raised.

Grace, who was the Vice Chairman of the University Hockey Team before graduating this September, was embarking on a world tour. This included visiting Auckland, New Zealand where she was last seen on December 1st. Tragically, her body was found, and a man has been arrested on the suspicion of her murder.

Many tributes have spread across campus in honour of Grace

The accused has been arrested and has already appeared in court. Judge Evangelos Thomas stated, “All of us hope that justice is fair and swift and ultimately brings you [Grace’s father] some peace.

To remember her, at the friendly hockey match, everyone present came together in a minute silence to remember Grace. Furthermore, before starting the first game, the players chanted her name in her memory. Many of the players wore blue and yellow ribbons, the colours of the University Hockey team. Also, these were given out to spectators when donating.

Her story swept across the internet and has led to a campaign in her honour. #HerLightOurLove circled social media since the news broke of her murder. Moreover, the hockey match will be a permanent fixture. Taking place annually now so as to never forget the former team-mate.

We here at Trill! extend our condolences to all those affected by the passing of Grace.
