Throughout his short yet successful career, Jutes has managed to blow the world away. With a new world of music coming out to play, Jordan Lutes (also known as Jutes) fits right into this. Every single piece of music he has worked on has always challenged traditional genre styles. By blending multiple elements throughout his work, there is more behind the Canadian than people suspect.
Many people have discovered his alternative metal music after he and Demi Lovato got married in 2025. But there is more to Jordan than just being a husband to one of the world’s most famous singers and actresses. The pair met when Jordan was asked to help write a few songs with Demi and her team. And the rest is history.
But who is Jordan Lutes, and how is he shaping the way music is created?
The start of Jutes’ career
Before Jordan started his music career, he grew up in a household where music was prominent. His father was a drummer, so he was introduced to music such as Guns N’ Roses and Red Hot Chilli Peppers at a young age. He then began studying film in Toronto for a year in his early twenties before finding his passion for songwriting in 2015. The Canadian musician signed with Capitol Records for two years, but ended up leaving to become an independent artist. This allowed him to finally get back in control of his own career.
In 2018, Jutes moved out of Canada and into Southern California. This is where he got to work with artists such as Omer Fedi and Andrew Luce, who both worked with artists such as MGK, 24kGold, and The Kid Laroi. With this small team, they formed one of the tracks from the EP called Everyone Knows. This specific track was what established Jutes’ authentic sound. With elements of alt-rock, hip-hop, and rock-punk, this was just the beginning for his career.
Jordan’s first full releases
His first EP Overrated came out just days before the pandemic, with its release date being the 5th March 2020. Upon release, Everyone Knows blended pop-punk elements with alternative rock, so there is a lot more to unpack with the EP.
The opening track ‘Where Are You Going?’ uses alternative-rock guitars that flow into a catchy hip-hop-like melody. This blend of genres give the track a different lease of life. And this concept follows through the rest of the EP.
Throughout Overrated, not only are there hip-hop elements throughout the songs, but there are aromas of pop and hints of R&B scattered through Jordan’s work. Another track like this is ‘Back To You’, where pop-punk is mixed with trap-style pulses alongside Jutes’ incredible vocals.
Overall, the entire EP mainly blends alternative-rock, pop-punk and hip-hop to narrate his stories. And this was just the beginning for Jordan’s career.

Following this, Lutes became dedicated in growing his musical portfolio. So he took on the challenge of releasing new singles every week. And they definitely helped the Canadian get to where he is today.
After this, his album Sleepyhead was what truly kickstarted Lutes’ growing fanbase. And thus, the nickname for his fans spawned. Sleepyheads. And honestly, I think it’s the perfect name for his fans. Especially as Sleepyhead is Jordan’s most streamed song on both Spotify and Apple Music.
Jordan’s songwriting experience
In 2021, Lutes was called up to co-write a select few songs for the one and only Demi Lovato. He was fortunate enough to co-write ‘Substance’, ‘Happy Ending’, and ‘City of Angels’ for her 2022 album Holy Fvck. Lovato wanted this album to be the most authentic to herself, so there was no pressure for Jordan. He even stated that he was “blessed to be part of” something so big when he posted about his involvement with her single Substance.
Substance criticises contemporary societal norms alongside discussing Lovato’s previous drug addictions and mental health problems. This is something that both Lovato and Lutes had in common. In 2023, Jordan posted to X about being one year sober—which is something that the couple have been on a journey with together.
He has also worked on other artists’ work. Lutes is credited on songs by Johnny Orlando and Illenium; it is clear that his songwriting skills are on an insane level. Especially when he can write for a variety of different genres; it’s like the multi-genre production is in Jutes’ blood.

The Far From Dilworth tour
In May, Jordan did his first ever European tour. The Far From Dilworth tour followed the release of his Dilworth album in 2025. This was the first time that he had ever performed away from the United States. And what a leg he performed.
The Dilworth album aided Jutes to be nominated for Juno’s Breakthrough Artist of The Year. Although he did not win, this still highlights a crucial point that this is just the beginning for Jordan’s career.
The tour started off in the UK before moving to the Netherlands and Germany, with many of the venues being upgraded due to popularity. Especially the London show. This show was upgraded at least three times before settling in KOKO in Camden. It’s times like this that you realise just how popular some smaller artists are.
Many European fans also got to hear a variety of unreleased tracks that Jutes has up his sleeve for his upcoming project. So, it was incredibly close and intimate between him and his fans. Below is a snippet from one of Jordan’s latest singles ‘White Butterflies‘, which he wrote in response to Lovato’s song Ghost. This is a live example of how Lutes plays around with musical genres to create something so personal and intimate for his Sleepyheads.

What’s next for Jutes?
Now that he is back in the states, Jutes announced that he will be doing a US tour called ‘Smile You’re On Tour’. With opening acts including Wilt, In Color and Mothica, fans are going to have a wail of a time. This tour starts on the 11th August and goes on until October. But he is also performing in Ohio on the 17th July for Inkcarceration. So Jutes has a busy schedule ahead of himself for the rest of the year. Not only is Jutes doing a three-month tour across the States, he is also releasing his eighth album called Chin Up, Beautiful. This album is set to be released digitally and physically on the 5th August (just in time for his tour). So be prepared US Sleepyheads, you haven’t got long to learn the album inside and out! With the album featuring his popular, newly released singles ‘Icarus’, ‘White Butterflies’, ‘Goodnight (Interlude) <3’, ‘Blink Twice’, and ‘Mannequin’, fans are expecting this album to be an emotional rollercoaster to say the least.

Final comments
To this day, Lutes continues to play around with a variety of different genres within his music. So no two songs sounds alike. And that is something that a lot of his listeners thoroughly enjoy. It’s as though he is breaking the boundaries when it comes to writing music, whilst also telling a visual and lyrical story.
Throughout his short career (so far), it is clear the stage for Jutes is only going to grow more and more as time goes on. I have never appreciated an artist as diverse with their musical style as I have with Jutes, and he is truly someone that deserves the recognition that he can get.
With 885K followers on Instagram, and just under 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, there is no doubt that the Canadian artist will be going places as his career expands. With such a unique music style that everyone can appreciate (and one that is going to shape our music consumption) Jutes has a song suited for everyone’s tastes.
