Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love in relationships. However, it can be difficult for people who are single. They may feel sadness, loneliness, and left out – but it does not have to always be that way. It may be hard to stay positive, but there are ways to get through it without dismissing how you feel.
Start with self-love
Self-love is defined as a practice of accepting and nurturing oneself rather than relying on external validation. This does not mean abandoning your own feelings, but acknowledging them while not being harsh on yourself.
On Valentine’s Day, you may find yourself comparing yourself to others, but you have to accept the fact that you are single. Take this day to value yourself and appreciate who you are as a person.
It is perfectly fine to cry or be angry at first seeing the situation you are in, but as Valentine’s Day. As the day goes by, be sure to take care of yourself and do things that fill your own cup.
YouTuber Lavendaire explains the journey of self-love and emphasizes forgiving oneself despite any flaws that exist. It is important to love yourself the way you would love other people. Self-love does not always come immediately, and it is normal to have ups and downs.

How can singles choose to pass the time on Valentine’s Day?
Remembering that love is not only romantic, it can also be in forms of self-love or love towards family and friends. Sometimes, singles who do not want anything to do with this day may take time for themselves. Others may want to just celebrate with the people they care about.
Choosing to celebrate may alleviate painful feelings while appreciating the people you are surrounded by. If trying to avoid the idea of Valentine’s Day, one can spend time by themselves doing what they like.
Choosing to be alone
If one opts to spend the day alone, it may start off as difficult if having negative feelings. It is okay to sulk in your own thoughts for a bit, but that does not have to be the trajectory of your whole day. However, this day can be about you. Do something that you like doing. This can include treating yourself to the dinner of your choice, doing something you like, or watching a film to pass the time.
Self-care is crucial to loving oneself. Booking a spa appointment or taking care of yourself at home may help alleviate stress and make one feel better about themself.

One respondent said to go for a long drive and sing your favorite songs. They stated that taking time for simple that bring them joy is their favorite way of loving themself.
Another respondent who is a widow said she started a tradition of buying herself something from Tiffany and Co on Valentine’s Day. Treating yourself to something nice is being kind to yourself.
Spending the holiday with others
There are plenty of other people that are single who are in the same boat. This may include some friends as well. A Galentine’s or Palentine’s celebration may be the solution. It can be a light-hearted celebration for the appreciation you have for friendships.
If some friends may be busy on Feb. 14, parties may be held the day before or after. Activities at these parties may include making crafts, drinking, eating, and different games.

Being able to get through this time
Remembering it is okay to feel however you feel while being single is crucial to celebrating or just treating this day as another day. Love is not only on Valentine’s Day and self-love is everyday. You can value yourself and your own company while still feeling down about being single.
