This has definitely been an exciting and eventful year for the Jonas Brothers and their fans. They celebrated their 20th anniversary during a fan convention in March, and released their seventh studio album, “Greetings from Your Hometown.” In August they began a North American tour and released the film, “A Very Jonas Christmas Movie,” a special holiday treat.

On Nov. 14, “A Very Jonas Christmas Movie” was available for streaming on Disney+. Directed by Jessica Yu, the film stars Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas as themselves in a holiday musical comedy. Alongside the brothers star Chloe Bennet, Billie Lourd and Laverne Cox, some of the many recognizable actors that accompany the brothers as fictional characters. It’s an adventure with laughs, music and even a little bit of drama as the brothers struggle to make it home for Christmas. So if you haven’t already, be sure to add it to your holiday watchlist.

Warning: Spoilers lie ahead.

A familiar holiday story

When diving into a Christmas movie, we all want something cheerful, comforting and even a bit funny. “A Very Jonas Christmas Movie” is the typical holiday story of needing to get home in time for Christmas, except with that special Jonas Brothers spark that fans will love. The film absorbs you as it opens with the sights of London, and the Andy Williams classic, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”

Apart from this pleasant tune, the movie starts with familiar holiday star Will Ferrell, known for his role in “Elf.” Ferrell plays himself as a huge Jonas Brothers fan who eagerly gets ready for the last show of the brothers’ tour. Seeing Ferrell and his family at the concert is one of the movie’s highlights, as it’s exciting for audiences.

As everyone is having a great time, the movie shifts to an offstage tension between the brothers. They all seem eager to get away from each other and home to their families. While at a bar, Joe meets Santa Claus (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), confiding in him about his relationship with his brothers, which he feels is falling apart.

But why is this? Well, it seems that all of the brothers have something that’s troubling them. Nick, being the one who’s mostly in control of the band, feels unappreciated by his brothers. Kevin finally wants a chance to sing in the group, but doesn’t know how Nick and Joe will respond. Joe is tired of being made fun of by his brothers because of his past romantic relationships.

A little Santa magic

Nothing like a little magic to solve the problem! Santa casts a spell that prevents the brothers from getting home. This helps keep them together until they restore their sibling bond. The spell leads to a series of mishaps in the brothers’ travel plan, the first one being that their airplane explodes. These misfortunes are sure to happen in a Christmas movie, and they definitely bring that comedy and excitement that everyone enjoys.

Through their helpful manager, Brad (Randall Park), the brothers are connected with travel agent, Cassidy (Lourd). Though extremely upset about a recent breakup, she manages to help them throughout the movie. The first thing she does is inform them of a train to Paris that’ll get them another flight home. But of course, there’s one problem — the train departs in a half hour.

It’s a moment of suspense and laughs as the Jonas Brothers are taken to the train station in a speedy, and quite dangerous ride. Though they arrive at the station in one piece, they don’t know what awaits them. Joe runs into his old friend Lucy (Bennet) and feels like they made a romantic connection. Then, instead of Paris, the brothers arrive at Amsterdam — another mishap from Santa’s spell.

Brotherly love

Stories about family are really common during the holidays, and this one is no different. In fact, watching the Jonas Brothers together is probably the highlight of the film. It’s exciting to see them sharing the screen as a musical group, but it’s especially sweet to watch them star as real brothers joking around and sharing heartfelt moments.

Even though some of their characteristics were fictionalized for the film, it’s still really interesting to watch their relationship as siblings. The moment when they’re reminiscing about a past Christmas felt like a really special scene, and I wish it would’ve gone on longer. There’s something quite heartwarming about watching the brothers bond, and I truly think that’s what makes this movie worth watching.

A fun and festive soundtrack

What makes this movie stand out are the Jonas Brothers, and of course, that means music. There are plenty of musical scenes where they break into song, some festive and others just pure fun. The soundtrack includes 10 tracks, seven of which were made especially for the film. Even one of the soundtrack’s songwriters and producers, Justin Tranter, made a cameo in the film.

A live version of the Jonas Brothers’ 2019 single, “Like It’s Christmas” is the first track on the album, and the first song we see performed in the movie. We see Joe sing the new, upbeat tune, “Best Night,” while imagining a fun, epic night out with his brothers. Then there’s the calm, “Remember When,” sung by Nick while reminiscing about past memories. Towards the end of the film, the families gather together and the brothers sing “Time.” During this song, Kevin is finally given the spotlight and fulfills his wish to sing.

The soundtrack features a couple of duets as well as a special appearance by saxophonist Kenny G on the single, “Coming Home This Christmas.” The song “Home Alone” is performed by Nick and Andrew Barth Feldman who plays Ethan, Nick’s old rival. The song “Feel Something” is sung by Joe and Bennet after their characters realize they might have feelings for each other.

Final thoughts

“A Very Jonas Christmas Movie” is perfect for Jonas Brothers fans, as well as for anyone looking for a light, silly and heartwarming watch. There’s music, entertainment, Christmas, and of course, the Jonas Brothers, which I think is the best part of the movie. Though the movie received mixed reviews, it sure did warm the hearts of many. Its similarity to the Disney Channel Original TV series, “Jonas” and the “Camp Rock” films seems to have brought fans a sense of comfort and nostalgia.

Aside from “A Very Jonas Christmas Movie,” Kevin thrilled fans even more with the release of his very first solo single titled, “Changing,” on Nov. 20. And if that isn’t enough, the Jonas Brothers are set to star in “Camp Rock 3,” a sequel to the past two films that will be released the summer of 2026. Overall, Jonas Brothers fans have a lot to look forward to.
