1) Modern Family

Modern Family is an American sitcom in which follows the lives of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker family. Viewers get to witness their major life events, everyday relatable situations and incredibly heartfelt moments. As they grow as a family, we also see the dynamic of each character grow. We also get to see them transform into their own people. So, this is the most ideal show to help viewers de-stress from their personal lives.
Throughout the 11 seasons, we meet three households. First, we meet Claire and Phil Dunphy with their three children Haley, Alex and Luke. Next, we’re introduced to Jay Pritchett, his wife Gloria and her son Manny. Finally, we meet couple Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker – who adopt a Vietnamese daughter called Lily. Whilst their extended family bond is strong, each episode is jam packed with entertaining and unique experiences. They also demonstrate heartfelt messages that people may relate to about their own personal lives.
This show in particular is a lighthearted, comfort watch with a mockumentary format in places. As a result, this specific style reveals more to the viewers about specific thoughts that each character has as they evolve and grow. Some moments are hilarious whilst some can be more on the emotional side. Not only is the humour light and familiar, but viewers also enjoy the nostalgic aspect of family life. Each episode of Modern Family is only 20 to 25 minutes long, making it ideal to have on in the background.

2) Hannah Montana
This is a nostalgic Disney Channel show that follows Miley Stewart who lives a double life as the pop star (you guessed it) Hannah Montana. Throughout the series, Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus) must learn how to balance life as a normal teenager whilst also being a famous image. The only people who know about her ‘double life’ is her father Robby Ray (played by her real life dad Billy Ray), her brother Jackson and her two best friends Lilly and Oliver.
Each 20 minute episode is typically focused on the challenges Miley faces whilst keeping her ‘second life’ a secret from people at her school. Viewers also get to experience the lessons that she learns from these specific challenges. For the most part, we learn about all the different ways that she keeps Hannah Montana a secret from her school life and how she manages to do so.
While the plotlines can be predictable yet highly entertaining, there is no doubt that rewatching something from our childhood is incredibly comforting. Thus, Hannah Montana is the perfect show to travel back in time to a much simpler time in our lives. You can never go wrong with going back and watching something that brings back memories from our past. Once you have finished watching all of the seasons, there is also Hannah Montana: The Movie. This film is also available to stream (and even sing along to) afterwards on Disney+.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (also known as TSITP) is a romantic drama that follows the plot of Jenny Han’s novels. The show highlights the summer adventures Isabel “Belly” Conklin has whilst spending time with her two family friends Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. As the show progresses, both brothers see Belly in a more romantic light and the three of them end up intertwined in a somewhat complicated love triangle. Therefore, what begins as a calm and entertaining summer ends up being an emotional journey for the trio. During this, Belly navigates herself through her first love between the two boys, changing friendships and the sudden realisation that she is growing up.
This 3 season show is the most perfect watch for when you’re missing the warm summer days and want to relive it on the lead up to the festive season. Additionally, the emotionally and engaging aspect of the plot is demonstrated as highly enjoyable and entertaining. It is also not stressful, making it a perfect comfort watch. 4) Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty is an animated sci-fi show that demonstrates the chaotic adventures of scientist Rick Sanchez and his socially anxious and awkward grandson Morty Smith. Rick moves into his daughter’s house and subsequently ends up disrupting their family life with his experiments, inventions and crazy portals. Unintentionally, Morty ends up becoming Rick’s sidekick and accompanies him throughout a variety of different missions. For example, some of these missions involve alternate timelines, alien civilisations and philosophical dilemmas.
Throughout the 8 seasons, there are elements of dark humour, satire and sci-fi like themes. We are also faced with family dysfunction, trauma and the consequence of power. There is also emotional depth, which aids the series’ outrageous yet unexpectedly thoughtful plot. Due to this, many viewers will find this show entertaining with elements of surrealness.
With episodes being less than 25 minutes long, this show is perfect to have on in the background whilst doing other activities. Especially as each one has a different plot every time. So no two episodes are exactly the same.

Whilst Rory pursues her academic success, she navigates life through friendships, first love and growing up. Meanwhile, Lorelai works towards running her personal inn and explores her own challenging romantic relationships with people from the past and the present.
This show in specific explores themes of family life, ambition, class and identity alongside the unique mother and daughter bond. Furthermore, viewers tend to find this show warm and comforting due to the fact nothing dramatic never really happens in Stars Hollow. We also get to witness relationships (and friendships) that warm the heart and soul. Additionally, the autumnal aesthetics make this the perfect show to watch with a hot chocolate wrapped in a warm, cosy blanket after a long day.
Although the 40 minute episodes may seem daunting to some, rest assured that Gilmore Girls is the perfect show to put on after a long day. You can’t go wrong with the warm atmosphere and incredible bond between Rory and Lorelai as they navigate through life together.
