For more than a decade, Slipknot fans have chased a mysterious side project—an unreleased metal album that shows a completely different side of the band. Look Outside Your Window ranks as one of the most elusive and intriguing records in modern metal history. Unlike the band’s signature chaos and aggression, this hidden gem promises something far more experimental, melodic, and emotionally layered. It represents a sharp left turn from the sound that made Slipknot famous, and that contrast has only deepened fans’ curiosity.

Over the years, whispers of its existence have grown louder. Dedicated listeners have dissected interviews, scoured forums, and replayed old statements from band members, all hoping for some sign that Look Outside Your Window might finally emerge. The album has taken on a mythical status within the Slipknot community—half legend, half reality. Every tease sparks excitement. Every delay fuels frustration.

In recent years, the band has teased its release multiple times, with Clown and Corey Taylor both confirming that the album exists and is fully finished. They’ve spoken about it in interviews, hinted at release windows, and even described the emotional depth and unique sound of the record. Yet, despite those teases, fans still wait. As of mid-2025, Look Outside Your Window remains locked away. There’s no release date. No new trailer. No promotional rollout. Nothing.

So, what really happened to Look Outside Your Window? Why has this album, recorded nearly two decades ago, never seen the light of day? And will it ever escape the vault—or will it continue to live as a ghost in the margins of Slipknot’s legacy?

Those questions still linger—and for now, answers remain just out of reach.

What is the Look Outside Your Window metal album?

Unlike Slipknot’s usual nine-member chaos, this project was a more intimate collaboration between just four members: Corey Taylor, Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson. The smaller lineup allowed for a more experimental and melodic approach—one that stood in stark contrast to Slipknot’s signature sound.

Clown has explained that Look Outside Your Window was never meant to be a traditional Slipknot’s metal album. It was a passion project, driven by a desire to explore something raw, emotional, and deeply personal. The music leaned heavily into alternative rock and atmospheric textures—something Clown himself compared to Radiohead.

When they first shared the tracks with others, the reaction was tepid at best. Many dismissed it, saying it “didn’t sound like Slipknot.” But that was the entire point.

A glimpse into something deeper

Fans who’ve heard Till We Die—a bonus track from the special edition of All Hope Is Gone—might already have a taste of what this album sounds like. Somber, introspective, and slow-burning, the track is devoid of Slipknot’s usual blast beats and screaming. Instead, it embraces vulnerability and reflection.

These names alone hint at a darker, more poetic tone—suggesting a journey through grief, identity, and artistic reinvention.

Clown has even stated the record “feels timeless,” describing it as something that could have come out ten years ago or ten years from now. That’s part of what makes its continued delay so frustrating.

Till we die to give a hint into what the album was suppose to be about, gives us an insist of what Outside Tour Window was suppose to be. It is a bonus track on their special addition album All Hope Is Gone.

Why wasn’t it released in 2019?

Back in 2019, it genuinely seemed like fans were finally going to hear it. Both Corey Taylor and Clown mentioned in interviews that the album was finished, fully mixed, and ready to go. It was supposed to drop around the same time as Slipknot’s We Are Not Your Kind.

But the release never came.

In a more recent interview, Clown explained that life—quite simply—got in the way.

“It’s a timeless album. It can be released 10 years ago, 10 years from now, today… Every time we’ve gotten it to a place where we were gonna pull the trigger, life has thrown the band through a circumstance of some sorts.”

That quote speaks volumes. Over the years, Slipknot has faced numerous lineup changes, personal tragedies, and schedule conflicts. Whether it was touring, promoting a new album, or dealing with internal friction, something always pushed Look Outside Your Window to the back burner.

Slipknot’s recent focus has been on transitioning into a new era. With lineup changes (including the recent addition of a new drummer) and work on a brand-new metal album, Look Outside Your Window has once again slipped into the shadows. As of now, there are no official announcements, teasers, or release schedules.

In 2024, Clown once again teased that the metal album should drop sometime that year. Well, we’re past the halfway point of 2025 now—and nothing.

Unfortunately, in limbo.

Why fans are losing hope

Slipknot is no stranger to chaos—both sonically and behind the scenes. But the ongoing cycle of promises and silence has started to wear down even the most loyal fans.

On one hand, Look Outside Your Window is clearly a labor of love, especially for Clown and Corey. But on the other hand, it seems clear that the band’s current focus lies elsewhere. They’re building toward the future, not looking back at a side project recorded 17 years ago.

To make things messier, Corey Taylor himself has sometimes sounded uncertain about the album’s future, even expressing hesitation about how fans might react to its unique sound. The disconnect between band members’ statements has only added fuel to the confusion.

Here’s the honest answer: maybe.

The end

If it does come out, it will likely be on Clown’s terms, during a time when Slipknot is not promoting a new album or touring. The album is finished. The cover art exists. All it takes is a unified decision—and the right moment. Still, if you’re holding your breath, you might want to exhale. Slipknot’s history tells us that this record won’t come out until everything aligns just right. And that might not be anytime soon.

So is the metal album ever coming out? When is it coming out? Lots of questions and I don’t think there is an exact answer to it except we will have to wait and see, if it does it does, but I wouldn’t get too much hope for it, it seems like the band has other plans and an old album release is not on the list.
