North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West, is poised to follow in her father’s musical footsteps. The 10-year-old is set to debut her newly announced album ‘Elementary School Dropout’.

North West was born in 2013 to TV personality Kim Kardashian and hip-hop star Kanye West. She is the couple’s first child, followed by siblings Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.

North recently made her rap debut, dropping a set of verses on her father’s LP Vultures. The 10-year-old raps and appears in the music video for the track “Talking,” which features rapper Ty Dolla Sign.

“It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie. Don’t try to test me, it’s gonna get messy. It’s gonna get messy. Just, just bless me.” North raps on top of an auto-tune-heavy beat.

The song notably debuted on the Hot 100 chart, making North one of the youngest artists to appear on the chart.

North West takes center stage

North announced her debut album, titled Elementary School Dropout, onstage at Kanye’s listening party for Vultures. The title is an homage to her father’s 2004 LP The College Dropout. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earned critical praise, and is regarded by some as one of the best pieces of hip-hop work ever created.

The Kanye factor

Fans of Kanye West are eagerly anticipating North’s debut album. However, not all responses to the recent announcement have been positive.

Some are concerned that North is following in her father’s footsteps, which has recently not been a good thing.

The 46-year-old rapper has had a history of inappropriate, and frankly erratic, behavior. His statements, including antisemitic remarks and comments minimizing the severity of slavery, have sparked outrage from both fans and critics alike.

West’s support for former President Donald Trump has also sparked considerable criticism. Many perceive his alliance with Trump as contempt for his own community as well as for those whom Trump has publicly vilified.

These incidents have not only tarnished West’s reputation but highlighted the destructive nature of the path he is currently on. Many are concerned North could end up continuing this legacy.

Some also consider North to be too young and hope this announcement does not mean that she will end be dropping out of school.

Beyond the hype

The Kardashian-West clan are no strangers to controversy and discord, as Kim and Kanye recently went through a very nasty and public divorce. The two have even gone back and forth on social media, ranting about the other’s parenting skills.

North’s new album represents a substantial step forward in her developing career. But it also raises legitimate questions, particularly in light of these conflicts in her familial environment.

One might wonder whether embarking on this musical venture at the moment will pave the way for a prosperous career or potentially exacerbate existing challenges. Challenges that can have significant ramifications for the future.

Only time will reveal the trajectory of North West’s musical career, but in the interim, the discourse surrounding her debut album stands as a poignant reflection of the complexities inherent in navigating celebrity life, especially as a 10-year-old child.
