Black Panther: Wakanda Forever completely dominated at the box office this weekend. In a year fraught with strategies about whether audiences would return to theatres after the pandemic, the sequel to Marvel’s popular -Black Panther quickly brought out the crowds.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made its record for the November movie opening.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned around $180 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. This makes it the second most significant release of the year after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s also become the highest-grossing movie opening of all time for a title released in November. Global tickets raised that number even more to $330 million. That additional $150 million around the globe is somewhat equivalent to what Wakanda Forever’s nearest competitor, the Dwayne Johnson-helmed DC flick Black Adam, has collected domestically in its entire three-week run till now.

Wakanda Forever made its African premiere in Lagos, Nigeria, the weekend before the film’s release. It was the first time a Marvel film made a local premiere. Wakanda Forever also made the largest opening weekend numbers for any movie in Nigeria’s history.

So, it’s good news for Marvel and its fans, many of whom wondered what to expect from the Black Panther sequel after the tragic death of the first film’s lead, Chadwick Boseman. Now that the movie has been released and getting immense positive reviews, it seems safe to say that director Ryan Coogler and his team have established a way to continue the story of Wakanda in a way that has attracted the audience.
