Ground control to Major Ryan

La La Land director Damien Chazelle’s First Man is the upcoming biopic from Universal Pictures based on the book ‘First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong’ by James R. Hansen. The film will chronicle the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission between 1961–1969 to put a man on the moon.

As everyone knows that man was the legendary Neil Armstrong who will be played in the film by super heartthrob Ryan Gosling, sporting the stereotypical buzz cut that most astronauts have. Slated for release in the US on the 12th of October this year, first images of the film have been released by Universal.

Speaking about the movie to people.com Chazelle said.

“What fascinated me about Neil Armstrong is that he is kind of a mystery. For someone that accomplished something that is among one of the most famous things that anyone has ever accomplished, the human himself is a little bit of an enigma. And it’s funny, the first time I ever met Ryan was to pitch him this role, before we did La La Land together, so it was a dream to have him in this role.”

Chazelle went on to talk about his leading man.

“I was fascinated by the psychology of what can drive someone to do what Neil Armstrong did, to physically go further than any human being in history pretty much, in terms of the journey he goes on, I think Ryan is able to capture that kind of drive, that kind of methodical focus, that kind of quiet heroism.”

Not content with just starring in the new movie, Gosling also helped to produce the film alongside Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Damien Chazelle.

Interestingly, in 2003 Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros bought the rights to James R. Hansen’s book but opted to sell the rights to Universal in 2008.

In space no one can hear you scream! But we can! Sound off below if you’re looking forward to the movie or simply want to gush over Mr. Gosling. Did you read about this film?……..
