Shia LaBeouf Plays His Heroin Addicted Father In New Movie

Blurring the line between reality and fiction.

Shia LaBeouf returns to his roots in a move that is either very artistic or deeply strange. Maybe both.

Shia LaBeouf has been known for a while now for being a little… out there. The actor has had some bizarre antics over the years, including his iconic “I am not famous anymore” paperbag look.

Not to mention the weirdness that went on with the “he will not divide us” spectacle.

Odd performance art seems to be LaBeouf’s thing. However, this next move is definitely very interesting.

LaBeouf has decided to play his own father, Jeffrey LaBeouf, in a movie called ‘Honeyboy’ – Honeyboy being his nickname growing up.

The film is said to be loosely based on LaBeouf’s own life, which LaBeouf has opened up about previously.

He hasn’t had it easy, which may explain some of his more bizarre behaviour. Though really, it’s hard to separate where the real stuff starts and the performance art begins. Which may be kind of the point.

Jeffrey LaBeouf was a heroin addict, convicted of attempted rape of a minor in 1981. That’s a hell of a lot of baggage to work through, to say the least. Not only does Shia LaBeouf have to undergo what must be an intense psychological overhaul, he must also undergo a startling physical transformation.

The movie will touch on the sometimes fraught relationship between the two. However, LaBeouf is reluctant to place blame fully on his father. Speaking with Esquire, the actor claims:

My dad handed me a lot, and his legacy was an emotional one. And it wasn’t scarring. He handed me texture. My dad blessed me that way.

Now, I’ve always suspected LaBeouf had a ‘textured’ character. After all, you don’t wear a paperbag over your head to a red carpet event if everything is going a-okay up there.

Hopefully this upcoming project will reveal the depth that’s always been lurking under all the abstract performance art.

Who knows what ‘Honeyboy’ is going to turn out like. I mean, it’s still in the shooting process. But whatever the final result is, it’d be neat if the experience is a healing one for LaBeouf. And for anyone who can relate to complicated and fractured family dynamics.
