The trailers for the new season of Channel Zero are available to watch. If you would like to have some extra nightmares to send you to sleep, you should go ahead and press play.
Nick Antosca, the creator of the series, told Engadget, “The internet is… a sinister place. There’s freedom in that, but there’s an inherent threat to it. You don’t know who you’re interacting with, you lose your identity, and to me, there’s a sense of a great threat under the surface.”
Channel Zero is inspired by creepypastas. These are internet horror tales, shared on forums and similar sites to disturb and frighten readers.
The name “creepypasta” is from the word “copypasta”, a slang term for a text that gets copied and pasted all over the web.
Nick Antosca has described creepypastas as contemporary folklore.
Previous seasons of Channel Zero have received good reviews. Though not without a few snub comments. Vulture magazine commented that “the dialogue is so horror-movie typical at times that when it lands, you can hear it go clunk.”
So, what can you expect from the new season? Despite having the ominous name, ‘Butcher’s Block,’ gore is not their focus. So, if you have no tolerance whatsoever for blood (like me), you might be okay. Though don’t quote me on that.
Nick Antosca went on to tell Engadget, “I’m not supposed to reveal what the story is that the third and fourth installment is based on, but the third one is a … we’re doing something a little bit different than we’ve done before.”
“It’s not about jump scares. It’s not about gore. It’s about a sense that lingers with you for years after you see it, of, ‘God, that was weird. That was disturbing. What was that?’”
Not exactly Christmas family viewing. Maybe don’t watch this one alone.
