Welcome to Hip-Hops’ Westworld. Where’s Ford? We have a host on the loose! FN Meka, the world’s first artificial intelligence rapper, is making his presence known in the music industry. With 10 million followers, FN Meka is taking on TikTok full force, gaining attention from TikTok creators who create viral duets to his eccentric content.

Technology is evolving, and so is the music industry. FN Meka’s social media and music success show that the general public is interested in robotics musical talents. Thanks to its changes throughout the years, Hip-Hop has the potential to become the first successful robotics musical genre. Hip-Hop used to be about lyrics, sales, and talent. Anyone can be a rapper or Hip-Hop artist now, including virtual influencers. As of now, it isn’t easy to crossover into the Rock, Pop, and Country music genres. This is why Lizzo, Tyler The Creator, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Doja Cat, and many more music artists are often only labeled as R&B or Hip-Hop artists even though they’ve expanded into other musical genres.

The massive success of streams, “mumble rap,” “ghost writers,” and TikTok “viral hits” in the Hip-Hop community has allowed the music industry to capitalize on the success by investing in virtual musical talents. Think about how many famous Hip-Hop music artists are signed to major record labels. Nothing in life is free. The labels that these Hip-Hop artists are signed to have spent millions on their albums, music videos, merchandise, performances, etc. With virtual music artists like FN Meka, record labels can have a tremendous return on investments.

Music industry veteran and co-founder of Factory New Anthony Martini strongly believes that music artists in the mainstream music industry are replaceable. In an article on Music Business Worldwide, Martini stated, “Factory New is a media company focused solely on virtual and digital talent, there will be no human artists on our roster. Our first character is FN Meka, an AI driven robot rapper. He was created using thousands of data points compiled from video games and social media” You guessed it! FN Meka is here to battle mainstream rappers for the number one spot! Could you imagine a rap versus battle with FN Meka and Tekashi69? Without an album, FN Meka has managed to gain a fan base who enjoy listening to his music.

Co-founder and CEO of Vydia, Roy LaManna, agrees with Martinis’ perspective regarding mainstream music artists being replaceable. In a Daily Beast article, LaManna compared Tekashi69 to virtual influencers like FN Meka, stating, “The music, primarily in the early days, was co-written or ghostwritten by his producer. There’s Daniel Hernandez, who is the real guy, and then there’s the Tekashi character, which is almost a cartoon-like character that has people compelled and drawn into his storyline. So, the question is whether or not Daniel Hernandez’s character Tekashi69 could exist in a virtual space, and I think Anthony and his team are proving that the answer is yes.”
