WATCH: New Trailer for The NY Times Documentary “Framing Britney Spears”

New documentary will take a close look at the conservatorship over Spears.

Any older millennial will be able to tell you precisely where and what they were doing during the big Britney Meltdown of 2007. For myself, I was at work in a grocery store as a checker and I heard the news on the TV at the bank inside our store. Britney had been MY popstar, she was the “Hit Me Baby, One More Time”, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse superstar of my childhood and teen years. To see her so sad and in such distress truly upset me, if Britney wasn’t happy, what hope was there for the rest of us?

Starting in 2008, Britney’s father took over her life under a court-ordered conservatorship. Prior to this happening, I had no idea what this meant — I learned quickly through the media that in the States it meant a guardian over another (vulnerable) person’s finances and life. Britney’s conservatorship has now been in effect for around 13 years with no end in sight. And this is despite the fact Britney herself petitioned the courts to release her from this in 2019.

In the new documentary “Framing Britney Spears”, a hard look will be taken at what life has been like for Britney. It will discuss the growing fervor by fans and their urge to #FreeBritney. There will be featured interviews by lawyers involved in the process to free her from the conservatorship and there will also be anecdotes by those who knew her best. I personally cannot wait to see this and learn more about a beloved singer.

Watch the trailer below and peep the whole thing on FX Network or streaming Hulu Friday, February 5.
