After 51 years, the coded message from the Zodiac killer has finally been solved and the cracked message handed over to the FBI.

The code was cracked earlier this month by Sam Blake, Jarl Van Eycke and David Oranchak. The three men had a breakthrough with the coded message, known as the 340 cipher, on the 3rd of December and had completed solving the code in entirety by the 5th of December.

The message was one of several that was sent to newspapers during the killing spree, unfortunately the message does not reveal any clues to the killer’s identity, which has remain unsolved since the murders occurred half a decade ago. It states: “I hope you are having lots of fun in trying to catch me. I am not afraid of the gas chamber because it will send me to paradice (sic) all the sooner because I now have enough slaves to work for me,”

The trio have released a YouTube video on their journey to cracking the code and the FBI have even released a formal statement on their findings.

Hopefully, this brings the investigation closer to discovering the true identity of the Zodiac killer and this can finally bring the family and friends of the victims some closure.
