Universal Studios to Open New Theme Park in Beijing

Big news for thrill-seekers and amusement park fanatics: Universal Studios plans to open a new park in Beijing, China and the plans are insane. From the iconic Harry Potter World to an expansive Isla Nublar form Jurassic World, this new park redefines the phrase “Go big or go home”.

Due to the global outbreak of the Coronavirus, the park’s opening was almost delayed. However, the gates are set to open next spring, in May of 2021.

Many staples of Universal Studios’ amusement parks are set to appear in Beijing’s new playground. Harry Potter World, the Transformers Metrobase, and Hollywood have there own spaces carved out for the in the current blueprints. However, the most exciting inclusions to this particular park are Jurassic World‘s Isla Nublar and Kung Fu Panda‘s Land of Awesomeness.

Fans of the Jurassic franchise, old and new, are all too familiar with Isla Nublar. At this section of the park, visitors can experience attractions from the films, as well as get the opportunity to interact with creatures such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Idominus Rex, and Velociraptors. Details on the specifics of the rides available in this prehistoric wonderland have yet to be released apart from the rumoured 3D attraction and 360-degree rollercoaster. This park has also hinted at altering the classic riverboat ride by adding a darker twist.

Along with Isla Nublar, the Beijing park will be adding a new section called Land of Awesomeness, based off of Dreamworks Kung Fu Panda. This section of the park will be entirely indoors. The attraction will be set in “Legendary China” and is the very first theme park to be themed after the Kung Fu Panda movies. Guests will be able to visit memorable location from the animated film, including the Jade Palace, Panda Village, and Master Oogway’s Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom.

Overall, the park looks incredibly promising, especially considering the success of Beijing’s recent Disney amusement park. How the current state of the world will effect the park’s opening remains to be seen but we wish them the best of luck.
